Usually, when I go to restaurant, the one who leaves the tip is either my parents or the one who paid for the food. *hehe* But when I am the one who eats in a restaurant and I'm with my friends and it's "whatever-you-eat-you-pay-for-it" (also known as, Pay what you eat), the service tip that I leave are my change from the money that I pay for my food. :) It ranges from 5 to 20 pesos. *hehe*
And if I don't like the service, I, at times, go to their suggestion box, or what they call service rating cards, and leave comments and feedbacks. :p

How about you?
Do you also leave a tip when you eat in a restaurant?

The size of the tip that I leave depends of the service I receive. Wait staff that are always on hand when I need them and are prompt get a great tip from me but if I am constantly having to wait for them or if they are disgruntled or just general bad service I don't leave a good tip but I have never NOT left a tip.

The accepted standard in the US is 15-20% of the bill. Servers (I have two teens who are servers) make only two dollars and hour and rely on tips for the rest of their wage! Even if service was lousy, I leave a tip. It may not be as much as I would have left if service had been awesome, but I leave a tip! Often, folks decrease their tip to the server based on the quality of the food, that is not the server's problem, rather the cook's!!! I usually try to leave at least 15%.

I know they say there is a percentage that is a courtesy to give but regularly I give 2 or 3 dollars each time.

I try and get it close to 20% at restaurants.
I think only once in my life have I not tipped. If I recall, she was a meany.
Barbers fair the best, though. If the haircut costs $8, I give 'em a ten. Even if it is clearly the owner doing the snipping.
In the past, I've had haircuts that have driven me to anger and I've still left a tip.
Not tipping is very, very bad manners. Suffice to say, there are people who go out of their way to not tip; to maybe even squeeze a free meal out of the experience by complaining about the meal. (Don't forget, patrons. The people at the table next to you can hear you carrying out these silly antics.)

I always leave fifteen to twenty percent in the US and ten to fifteen in EU countries. I bussed tables for a summer and discovered two things: it is so much harder than it looks, and I am not so talented at it- I get impatient with people way too easily and hate stupid questions, which waiters receive on an hourly basis. That said, I probably ask a dumb question every time I go into a restaurant.
I have left eight percent one time in the US, but the waiter dropped a tray of drinks on my friends, not apologize, and act like it was somehow our fault (it wasn't- no one touched him or the tray). But, if a waiter seems brusque (not rude, just brusque)), I just remember that their job is hard and demanding... on most days, they are probably having a worse day than I am.

We usually leave 15 - 20 percent. If the service is bad, we will leave less, but we always tip.

Normally, whenever I go to a restaurant along with my familly, I make it a point to leave some money as tip. I feel it is a kind of acknowledgement of the services provided to us by the concerned fellow and he must be rewarded for that. Amount of tip is not important, but I feel, I should leave some amount as tip.
Perhaps, you would be knowing that TIP means - To Insure Prompt service (in future).
Good Post!

Hi sr0415! It usually depends on the service but most of the times we really follow the 10% tip for the restaurant crew. And it is also our practice that the one who didn't foot the bill, are the ones who are going to give tips. I guess, we differ in that way. Haha... Take care and have a nice day.

Hello!
I always leave a tip everytime I eat in a restaurant. Sometimes I do leave a big tip, especially if the service was very nice, my husband would always comment that I'm a snob/posh when it comes to leaving a tip. Here, most of the waitresses are Filipinos and i'm very proud of how hard they're working, and they really take care of me and assist me in my needs, so eventhough they charge you for a service fee..I still leave some tip. The typical amount for a tip here is 1dinar = 120 pesos something. Sometimes I leave 2 dinars. I don't mind it at all, especially if they're Filipinos because in a way i'm helping them. And I feel happy about it. Take care.
cheers! :D

I don't give tip if the establishment has already a service charge. If I can remember my professor told me not to give tips if I saw in thier receipt that they already have a service charge. But sometimes I give if I like them service & very accomodating.

I leave 20%. It's a very hard job to do to wait on tables, and be organized. It's also very hard to make everyone happy with their dining experience so the servers deserve the extra pay. They also have to pay taxes on their sales. But you should tip according to service. If it's very good I tip more then 20%.

If the food and service is good I do of course and sometimes even if the food is bad but I let them know if it's bad or that I didn't like it.

It depends on the service. It starts at 20% of the bill (either my total if it's being paid that way or the total bill if I'm paying it all). From there it goes up for better than average service and it goes down for inadequate service.
Average service to me is quick with drinks and taking orders, and coming back at least twice after the food is delivered to see if there's anything we need. Also coming by if waved at (if we need something else or have a problem).
I don't "punish" the server for bad food. I will punish a server if, for example, someone orders food without onions and it comes with onions and is then taken back to the kitchen where the onions are simply removed and the same plate of food brought back out.
I'm generally understanding if the place is really busy, but sometimes there are no excuses for bad service.

To tell you the truth, here in The Netherlands the tip is calculated in the price, but still I always leave them like 10%.
When I was in the US I always left 10 to 15%, depending on the service, and in other EU countries is about the same. When the waiters are lazy, rude, and or unavailable I leave little, and make sure to let them know that they might be doing themselves and the restaurant a big dis-service.

Depends on the service I get, but I'm usually generous and understanding. I'm somewhere at 10-20% depending on where I'm at and what is going on.
