Most of the lactose in cheese is taken out with the whey, but the calcium remains, so I think cheese is a good way to get calcium from dairy products if you are lactose intolerant. High protein foods and foods with a lot of phosphorus such as soda pop cause calcium to be poorly absorbed, so in addition to eating calcium rich foods, you might avoid foods that interfere with absorption. Although carrots have some calcium, you will get a lot more from sardines (or any fish where you eat the bones, which are rich in calcium and other important minerals that aid absorption) and sesame seeds. If you are interested in calcium to keep your bones healthy, do note that magnesium, manganese, and boron are also necessary to make the calcium work for you. Good luck!

I find sardines pretty hard to take on a regular basis, too! But now they have pretty good tasting canned salmon which can be eaten alone, in a salad or sandwich spread, or even fried up in croquettes. There is boron in prunes and raisins. Dark green vegetable and nuts and seeds are good food sources for both magnesium and manganese. My understanding is that lactose intolerant people can still enjoy brick cheeses such as cheddar, because the lactose is strained off and only the milk solids remain.

You can always look for calcium enriched products. Breads seem okay. Watch out for some orange juices with calcium, they'll taste metallic.

Try seaweed, wakame, broccoli, okra and spinach for some calcium filled greens. Try almonds and sesame for nuts that have calcium. Flour, beans and oranges have some decent calcium totals too. You can even try brown sugar if you aren't opposed to it.

I agree with you. The items you mention above are MUCH BETTER than any dairy product for calcium plus you get all of the other benefits form getting the dark green veggies.

Honestly, if you need high amounts of calcium, it's best to take supplements. My advice would be though to go get a decent calcium supplement from a health food store, not something from a pharmacy that's in hard tablet form. All supplements are best absorbed if they are in gelatin capsules, which you'll probably have to go to a health food store to get. I prefer the oyster shell calcium, although there's calcium made from other sources too.

Dairy product is one of the answer because fully equipped with qualitative and quantitative for our body needs. The rest will be the supplements and we cannot have the accurate measurement for quantitative. Insufficient in taking will never meets the level of requirement and excessively is futile.

Have you ever try soy milk? Get one with at less 30% daily allowance. Then there is Coral Calcium.Any fish where you can eat the bones are good sources of calcium like sardines and mackeral. Vitamin D helps in the absorption of calium so the 2 must go hand in hand.Besides your calcium rich foods listed above try the health store for calcium supplements/liquid.

There are not too many foods with calicum I would suggest taking calcium tablets. That way you know your getting the right amount each day. Yes carrots do have some calcium in them.

You can also try sardines, aside from getting them on brocolli, vegies and dairy products. I believe these are some of the good sources of Calcium, if you are lactose intolerant. Also try to look out for foods that are rich with Vitamin D, like juices, livers, fish and eggs.

You can always just take calcium tablets. Vitamins are always good to take just to make sure you're getting the vitamins that you need. I'm aenemic and I should have iron, but I don't eat red meat which is the best source of iron for me. So I should take Iron pills...I don't either, but I do have vitamins that I take every day to help out.

I think bananas have a lot of calcium, carrots are good source of vitamin A that is good for eyes. The best source of calcium is 'Methi-green leaves and the seeds' I add 'Methi' powder to all the vegetables and curries - that gives me a constant supply of calcium.

I do NOT think that humans were meant to eat and drink diary products. It is not good for us and is hard on ALL of our stomaches. We should be eating greens, soy products, and fish in order to get enough calcium. Also, by getting enough sun, you will have the necessary chemical increase in vitamin D to absorb the calcium.
