Hubby and I were just trying to figure out how many pc's we have owned. I've had 3 counting this one since I joined the computer age in 1999. My first one was a really basic one that was wonderful for learning on b/c I never worried about blowing it up, my second was a Gateway my brother gave me when he got a new one and this one is an Emachine that we bought new last year. I love my pc and although I want to upgrade the memory and video card...it still is a great pc. The pic is my pc exactly. Now we just have to get Hubby's built the way he wants it then we'll both be happy!! What about you? How many have you had? Are you happy with the one you have now? AT PEACE WITHIN

I have had 4 pc's till now. One i got when i was in the fifth grade. It was an old one and it was this 32 kb ram computer. I totally hated it and i used it only for dos games. Then i had another in the 8 grade that i used for 3 years. It too was not too great in performance. i got one in my 11th grade and it was amd processor with krypton motherboard that proved some use for me. Now i assembled a computer for myself with asus motherboard and amd athlon 64 processor which is dual core.

I just counted and we have owned 6 computers since 1995. This includes the laptop that we have now. The desktop I am using right now is about 3 years old- that's around the time we tend to upgrade! Also, we always recycle our used computers (after deleting everything off of the hardrive) so I don't feel guilty when we buy a new one.

I always worry about giving away an old pc for fear of what someone else can get off the hard drive. I think if there was a way to wipe it totally free (with no chance of retrieval) I'd do it more often. Thank you for responding! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I had one that was a family one. but I've only had one myself. I've had the computer I have now since 1999/2000. So it's pretty much ancient. It does what I need it to do for the most part. One of these days I'm going to get a new one!

oh these days it's real simple to get a computer. And for not even that much money. I mean you can get one for like 12 bucks a month. It's simple these days... I just have other things I want to get first since my computer treats me just fine.

My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81 which I got in 1981. That had a basic 1kb of memory (that's right, 1024 bytes!) but I upgraded it to 16kb very soon. It couldn't store anything and when it was switched off, all data was lost. Every time you wanted to write or run a program you had to save it or download it on a standard cassette recorder. It ran a version of Basic and Clive Sinclair claimed that it was powerful enough to run a power station! I am glad that nobody ever tried! After that I graduated to a proper PC - an Amstrad - which had 2 floppy disks, no hard drive and 512kb of memory. You had to boot from a System floppy and some programs needed two disks, one for the program and the other for data. Windows hadn't been invented then but there was a GUI called GEM which looked very like a Mac. After that I got a better Amstrad which had a hard disk but still only the basic 640k of memory. I did all my study for my Computer Studies course on that machine! When Windows became available, I must have had another machine but I have completely forgotten what it was. By then I was working as a Support person (we went by the title of Support Analyst) and quickly learned Windows which was then very new and unbearably unstable until version 3.11. My next machine was a Time Colossus with Windows 95. When Windows 98 came along, I upgraded to that. Finally I got the machine I have now, about 4 years ago, with Windows XP and a 120Gb hard disk. I thought that 120Gb would last me for ever but I didn't take into account my hobby of digital photography and music. Now I am looking for a large external hard drive to contain all my photos and music! I also have a laptop, which the rest of the house uses, and two or three ancient PCs which I intend to use (if they still work) for Linux. When you consider that the transistor was invented when I was 6 and that the idea of a Personal Computer wasn't a reality till I was 40, I think I have done pretty well!

We have only ever owned two and they are still the two we use . We have never had a new one although we have thought about getting a new one many times . They run slow but we only paid $500.00 for the first one we got second hand , which at the time was a good price and the second one was a gift from my dad and his wife , one year for my birthday . I would love to get another one day but right now these still work , even if they are not the best and are really slow , they get the job done and at the moment there are so many other things we really need so we will have to do with these for a little longer lol even though I am not happy with either of them lol .

I started back in the 1980s. I had a $99 build your own timex-sinclair I think it was called, and an Apple, followed by an Apple II, and Apple IIc and then an Apple IIe. I jumped on the PC bandwagon with windows and got an IBM Mod 50, then another IBM, I forgot I had a Thinkpad, then a Dell and now I have come back to my sense..and have an Apple iBook G4. In my opinion..I am happiest with the Apple and that will be my next computer too.

Oh lets see I think this is my third computer (brand new) the first two blew up from the eclectrical storm that we had and we wasnt home to unplug it so since we have the third one we unplug it every time we leave the house and go tobed. So now its a habit of unpluging it every night.

This is my second one. I got my first one in the early spring of 2002. It was an older, basic one that had been "rebuilt". It had been my s/o's and no longer worked but he took it to the computer guy and got it running again. It got me online and got me started even though it didn't do very much and had a very small memory. It only lasted for a year and had to be fixed once during that time. When it broke again we just didn't have the money to deal with it again so I just went without until I got my new one... The one I'm using now is an e machine that we bought new in February of 2006. I'm sure it's pretty basic compared to others but it's so much better than the old one that I think it's the best computer in the world LOL. My only problem with it is that I bought a computer game that I loved but it won't play on this computer. At first I thought it was a defective game since I did buy it cheap on e-bay. But I tried it on other computers and it works fine. I can't figure out why my computer won't play it so that has been disappointing. It's probably better though LOL...if the game worked here I probably never would have found mylot!

Several, actually. My first one was a PC my dad built for me when I moved out. Plus, my ex and I shared one that his mother gave us. At one point, I bought a Compaq which I had for about 5 years. Then I got an HP. I've also had 3 laptops -- I currently have 2 of them left (plus the HP). The other one was sold a few years ago. The one I'm currently using is the newest. A Compaq laptop. I've also got a Dell laptop that I can use as a backup if I need to -- although my son wrote all over the screen with a sharpie a couple of years ago, so it's not easy. Although if I need to use it, I've got a flatscreen monitor I can hook up to it. It's good to have a dad and an ex who are both tech-geeks.

I think I have had 4 since 2000, everyday computers become faster and to keep up in this race we just keep buying them, lol. The one I am working on is around 6 months old and is working ok, hopefully I will keep this one for a while. My laptop gets more use anyway...
20 Aug 07
well this is the second one I have had and I love it as it is a laptop. Needed to replace my other ordinary computer as it was so slow and decided to take the opportunity to get a laptop which I hope will be alright for many years.
