scent gland tumor

My gerbil has been to the vet and she diagnosed a tumor on his scent gland on his tummy. She said there was not much they could do but gave me some antibiotics which I gave to him. The "tumor" then disappeared for about three weeks and I thought she had made a mistake. Maybe it was just an infection and he would be ok now.
The tumour has now re-appeared and is bleeding again.
Is this a tumor if so why did it disappear and come back again? Is it worth me asking for some more antibiotics to see if it goes away again? Any ideas welcome as I am totally confused now

It sounds like the medication worked to reduce the tumor. The thing is do you want to medicate the gerbil for life? It doesn't sound like you have much hope for the gerbil without treating it. I hope things work out ok for you. I know your gerbil must be miserable.

Thank you for your response.
I would be willing to medicate him for life just to see him every day - he is a valued member of the family.
I may phone the vet tomorrow and see if I can get a repeat prescription for him.

Hi Kareng
Just thought Id let you know took him back to the vet and got some more antibiotics for him. He asked me if I would be willing to medicate him for life if he remained otherwise healthy and I said I would so we will just have to see what happens.
Once again thanks for your reply
