Simply amazing. Please, read this article about sky rocketing knife crime in the UK.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007380447,00.html
As a solution, it is suggested in the article that mandatory sentencing be legislated for individuals audacious enough to carry a knife.
I suggest responsible honest citizens be liscensed and permited to carry a concealed handgun. Further, that these legally armed citizens be allowed to shoot anyone who tries to rob them at knife point.
Based on crime rates in the USA which went DOWN where ever legal concealed carry is allowed, the fact a criminal would never know when he might be facing an armed citizen would reduce knife crime in the UK.
What's your idea of how knife crime could be reduced in the UK?
When giving your answer, remember, if a criminal can't get a gun, they use a knife, so,certainly if they can't use a knife they will use a rock. Your answer should be useful for no matter what the criminal might choose as his weapon.
For this reason I like honest citizens being allowed to use a gun and any criminal with a gun gets thrown under the jail.

I'm not sure what the answer is but if people were allowed to carry fire arms I would leave the UK straight away, and encourage my relatives and friends to. I say this because I reckon weapons will definately get into the hands of the wrong people, even decent people have their price and will be bribed.
I live south of London where it is quite a big problem. I think it's fairly well agreed that a lot of the crime is down to black on black gang attacks.
I know this may sound like a racist comment, but I speak to black friends about it and they agree. And that is why Tony Blair mostly got away with saying it is caused by Black culture. I think he was right, it is a black cultural thing, in London at least. But it is not limited to black people, whites and asians have jumped on board too.
So I think we need to target the culture that glorify violence and weapons to young men. I don't know how we do this but I know that things such as rap music can't be helping.
On the other hand the problem may be that the white majority are not allowing these people to integrate with us properly or offereing them the same opportunities, so maybe we need to look at our schools and society as a whole for an answer to the problems.

"I'm not sure what the answer is but if people were allowed to carry fire arms I would leave the UK straight away."
We know for a fact that when decent honest people are licensed to carry firarms after training and a background check CRIME DECREASES. There have been many places in the USA where this has happened.
It is important when studying human behavior to look at what really happens in a given situation, not what you are afraid will happen. Your fears reveal your prejudice, not what will happen.

It might work for America but there is no chance in hell it would work for us, no body wants it. It would be like trying to turn the US communist.

Yes, sure. Soon it will be car control - seeing cars cause deaths, food control - seeing we have too many overweight people, house control - seeing we have too many house fires, etc. Oh, I beg your pardon; That is exactly what they have been doing! Total ocntrol of humans and society! Please see:

The last thing we need is more control like this. What we need is good people. Also, it would help to remove negative motivation if it were easier to get better jobs. A lot of crime if motivated by the need to survive and if it is very hard to get a job to meet these needs people are driven to consider crime as a way to get by.
The only time I have felt like considering weapons is when I can't get an employer to seriously consider me for employment just because I don't have that college diploma. IMO that diploma doesn't actually mean that much. I know a lot of rather dumb people who have a diploma yet they can't even budget themselves enough to get by.
My girl and I are scratching to make it but we are doing it on 1/2 or less then some of the people we know because they have no concept of self control when it comes to spending.

This is just horrible I cant believe criminals would resort to using a knife in this manner. Why we should take every knife and sharp object like scissors out of everyones home. We can replace the steak knife with plastic wares, scissors with the rounded edges and put kiddy proof types only on the market. While we are at it we better get rid of butter knifes someone might sharpen them up. Hedge clippers, axes, shovels, chainsaws and any other farming/landscaping tools should be outlawed too!
