Here i am opening the same discussion i opened yesterday and there is only one response. But there are hundred responses about lipstick color or shoe size. At least you can say a word about your idea so that we can keep this discussion on top to make more people see this truth.
Stop This Massacre was the title.!!!!!!!!!!!!Every Year starting on March 15, the single largest mass slaughter of mammals anywhere in the world takes place off east coast of Canada. With the consent of the Canadian Government, hunters will again commence the slaughter of over 350,000 harp seals. About%95 of these seals are newborn pups less than three weeks old who are killed in full view of their mothers. Witnesses have seen and documented many of these seals being sadistically tortured by hunters before being skinned alive for their pelts.
We need as many people as possible to send a clear message to the Canadian Government that the public strongly opposes this mass slaughter. Please join animal advocates across the globe to peacefully demonstrate against this annual
atrocity.
Please click below to find the demonstration nearest you.

This is an OUTRAGE!!! I am sickened and sad as well as angry that this goes on! My husband and I have recently started buying cruelty free and organic products, I will not support these large companies that allow this as well as animal testing to go on if I can help it!
PETA has a list of cruelty free companies on there web site.
I am glad you provided this web site, if we could all just play a part for those who do not have voices!
God Bless!

This is my first time back to MyLot in a while and this post immediately caught my eye. I think this hunt is barbaric and years ago I did volunteer work with the HSUS to help get this stopped. The more people are aware of this and the more protest there is then hopefully it WILL stop. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Canadian Government suspend this for a time?
I know that protest against barbaric hunting practices have helped stop much of the whale hunting that was going on so hopefully, with enough protest and awareness, the killing of harp seals will someday become a thing of the past.

I wasn't on Mylot yesturday to see your article but I would have responded. I live on the east coast of Canada where this happens. I am vegetarian and don't think it is right to kill animals. The way they do it is wrong. But until people stop wanting to buy the pelts the practice will still continue. Simple as that.

All we can do is exactly what you're doing; raise awareness, and make better choices. Personally I have never bought fur, and I never will. My fiance likewise refuses to buy real fur products. As was mentioned earlier, it's the people that buy these products that drive the demand; if they didn't buy them, there would be no demand and the hunt would end.
As to how those men can sleep at night, well, sometimes people with cruel minds are drawn to cruel occupations. On the other hand, I'm sure the majority of them are just normal guys, doing the only thing they've been taught to do (or the only thing it pays to do) to feed their families. Who of us hasn't taken a distasteful job in an emergency situation? Doesn't make them evil. I bet if you offered them a job that pays equally but that didn't harm animals, 99% would jump at the chance.

Hi CatalystDave,
Thank you and thank to your fiance for your choices not to buy real fur. And for me i can never kill any animal especially this way what ever people pay me . I can't live with this bad conscience.
Thank you being here and thanks for your support.

I am sorry I was not aware of this discussion until a friend of mine pointed it out to me. I am just as horrified as you are. I too remember this being an issue that a French movie star, by the name of Brigitte Bardot, was very passionate about and that was many years ago so I had no ideas that this terrible practice was still being carried on. As a huge animal lover I shall certainly do what I can to stop this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
