What are the latest computer technology prevalent now?

What I know is about the orbiting internet which is called as Teledesic Internet. Teledesic was formed in June of 1990 with the objective of creating a means of providing affordable access to advanced network connections to all those parts of the world that will never get such advanced capabilities though existing technologies.

I've noted a prevalence of the mobile telephone slash computer. They're called 'smart phones', those super small phones that let you surf the net, email, listen to email, download, and yes, call Mom. * Those little buggers are not dependent on landlines or stable electrical supply as they come with their own power packs. Connectivity comes from satellites. Some folks actually hand crank their power if stuck somewhere well out of nowhere.
