How late do you go out in the evening?

Since we have a little kid, the latest we go outside is eight PM. And, that's only because there's still sunshine left this late in the summer. Later in the year, it gets darker earlier, so we don't go outside.
I just don't feel that comfortable taking my little kid outside into the dark, just to hang out! However, seems I am alone in my feeling on this matter. The neighbors stay outside with their kids way past dark, just turning on porch lights for adequate illumination.
For some reason, the idea of running around in the dark playing games doesn't appeal to me all that much. But, I guess everyone is different. Do you go out into your yard after it gets dark? What's the latest time that you let your kids stay outdoors in the yard before they have to go inside?

We actually don't have a yard since we live in an apartment complex and there isn't a play area for my son to play in. The latest we have ever been out is when we have run out of something and have had to go to the store for it or the nearest 7eleven which is usually around 8.30ish. He is usually in bed by 9pm or thereabouts. It is going to be earlier now that he will be starting school in 11 days.
When I was 8 yrs of age and older, we were allowed to play in our front yard until it got dark and then we had to go in. Even on day light savings nights we would stay out till late with a few of our neighbors. Parents didn't mind that as long as we were up early the next day for school and all our homework and chores were done.

In New Zealand, we really never had a problem like that with kids being snatched or whatever. I suppose having a tight nit neighborhood helped as well.

Well, I can imagine! And, of course it's different every place you go. Not all places in the states are like that. Some places are really decent. I wouldn't have worried in the other places I lived. But, I would have kept her out of the front yard so she didn't run into traffic. That is my other major concern.

As far as just being outside playing, we always go in before dark. The bugs start getting really bad, even with bug spray on, about 30 minutes before it gets dark. So that's when we go in.
After dark, the only time we are outside is to walk to or from the car, if we are going somewhere. My son and I are both night owls when my husband works nights, so a lot of our trips to Walmart and places like that don't happen until 6 or 7 pm (that way my husband has had enough sleep and can go with us), so we end up being out until 11 or 12 sometimes (Walmart and the mall are about 45 minutes from our house). My son will sometimes start to play in the yard when we get home, especially if we have accidentally left his ride on toy in the yard. But usually all we have to do is tell him to come in the house, and he goes right up the steps and waits at the door for us to finish getting groceries or whatever out of the car! lol

Yes- we are outside a lot in the dark- It’s fun—we chase lightning bugs and catch them- We have bonfires and roast marshmallows and eat smores. We swing on the swingset and just talk- It’s calm- peaceful-and relaxing- Some of my favorite memories of growing up are outside at dark- We even play hide and seek in the dark- sometimes with flashlights-
We live in the country. We sometimes even sleep outside in our tent in the summer- Get out there and enjoy the nice crisp air- and enjoy the summer nights

When I was living alone, I would go out anytime I want (if I feel like it) at night. Basically, it's because we have entertainment all night and there are still people around at night time. But usually going at nights means going out to clubbing and stuff. It's quite fun sometimes but I don't do it that much. These days, I prefer to have my decent good sleep at night.

I go out whenever i want you know. 8 Pm or 9 Pm or even 11 pm, it really doesnt matter. I like going out with friends at those hours. We have nice fun and we are always together during those ours. Its a lot of joy. We go to restaurants, parks, beach or ice cream shops, or bars or whatever we like to go at that minute. And i really feel going out in the evening is the best.

When I was a kid it was 8 pm. When I was a teen it was 10 pm. Nowadays it varies. I've gone out at 10, 11, 12 a few times 2 or 3 in the morning. Other times I just sat outside and watched the stars and nightsky.

I'm a bit of a homebody & don't go out late very often. We have a child too & we don't let him go outside late. If he goes outside, I'm with him the whole time. *Call me overprotective.* ;)

I am good boy so I never had the chance to stay late or out at night. I think I have this phobia on night. I'm not active at night so I went just to sleep all night.
