What's with the stars?

I've seen a lot of stars on here, heck, I've got one of my own.
Mine went from 9 to 8 when I started talking about myLot's policy on referral links.
What the heck does that mean? Am I not supposed to discuss policy?
What do these stars represent anyway? Are they a kind of rating?
Are our stars affected by the responses of others to our discussions?
If they are, I think that's unfair. We have no control over what other people are going to say.
That's why I also hate to see discussions of substance deleted because some idiot decided to post a response that is against policy or that is inappropriate. We should be able to delete responses at our own discretion.
I don't know what my star is all about, but I'm sure it will go down even more now that I'm talking about it!
(SHHHHH, I think I hear it changing colors right now!!)

On Mylot Stars are basically points. They can give you a point of minus a point depending on the person that makes the discussion thread. Most likely they wont even care about it but sometimes they will give you a star. It changes colors depending on your points if its higher then it would turn into a different color i think.

The stars are our ratings that are given to use by other members that read our posts, whether that be a discussion or a reply.
You can see how they work, how to use them and what effect they have on you buy reading the "FAQ" and "guidelines" located at the bottom of the page in blue links. I also suggest reading them cause they tell us exactly how to earn the most we can here as well how not to get posts deleted.
As for the lowering of your star, don't worry it happens to us all. I have been down to an 8 and back to a 10 a few times.

Thanks for the tip. I've been reading the guidelines and faqs a lot lately since my star's been dropping. I'm starting to understand exactly what myLot is looking for. The keyword there is "substance" and I guess our rating being what it is may have an affect on the substance of the discussion and responses involved. I'm going to read through the faqs and guidelines again.

Your star is your rating. A reader of one of your postings can chose to give you a plus if they liked your posting, or give a minus if they disliked it, or report you (!) if they feel that you are a violator of the rules. I imaging you got a lot of minuses from those who abuse the system to post referral links. Some people around here are bitter when we start pointing out the rules. I gave you a plus; those of us who know the rules need to stick together.

Thanks for clarifying that. I had a feeling that's what it was all about, but I wasn't absolutely sure. Now I know where my ratings are coming from (or going) whichever way you want to look at it.
I'm glad I've taken the time to read the rules, but sometimes I'm not sure I completely understand them.
I sure don't like talking about them too much, though, my star is changing colors again!! :)

Sorry it happened but it could be worse Ivy. Btw Mine was 8 then stuck at 4 for the longest. Now its 5 but I can hear it plummeting even as I'm typing this. Well, whatever. Its fun having a low rating but tons of high quality posts, helpful hints and a couple of pages of best discussion. :)
