An old saying say that it is a coursen to be taken if a black cat go across a street. Do you belive in such superstitioes? I do, so everytime a black cat cross a street I do spet three times behind my back. I also do not like keys laing on the table, it is also an old saying. And braeking a mirror are also a big thing you shouldent do.
What do you think about those things and belives? Do you know others?

We all know Friday the 13th we all know walking under the ladder. We all know the black cats and all the superstitious things.
How could one believe such crap.
When accidents happens on days like this is because they start to believe in the nonsense and they try to be careful. But they don't realise that they are too careful and they don't realise they are the cause of some accidents.
So why believing in this kind of things while it's not the ladder who causes the accident. It's just stupid to walk under the ladder, because one wrong move and people get injured. You see it has nothing to do with the ladder it's just something which can be dangerous.
How could you ever blame a cat for you having an accident. If you watch the cat and not anything else and someone crashed at you.Than it's you they would blame because you didn't look.
You see it's only stories which we believe in.There's no such thing as a curse. It's the human mind which is so strong. That's why my father always say be careful with what you wish for and with what you think.

Thank´s for responding. I hope you did not get upset with my question. But I belive there are still some of us that are. But I think that is for your granmothers. I belive this was more apearing in late 1700 centery amoung the poor people. I am not superstioes, however I do not like key´s on the table. I never put them there, and if someone els does I nicely ask them to put them somewhere els. I do respond i bad way, I can not explain why.
Have a nice day.

well, supersitions came to be because someone said, oh, a black cat walked in front of me and then a car hit me the very same day! or i laid my keys on the table and when i went outside, a big dog came up and attacked me! or i broke a mirror and don't you know i lost my job??
things like that i'm sure, so they're based on people's reactions to things and for them, it became fact and then it worked itself into other people's lives and over time... became real!
in fact, even for me ... to get rid of thoughts like this are hard because they're so ingrained in people... i broke a mirror in the bathroom last year and i just had to try to think my way out of that seven years of bad luck.... haha!

Well, I own 3 black cats so if I was supersticious of them, I'd probably be in alot of trouble. LOL :)
However, I do have other superstitions that my mom and grandmother kind of passed down thru the generations. One is about opening umbrellas up in the house, and another is about setting new shoes on a table.
I think there are more, but I can't recall right now.

Hello and thanks for responding.
I do belive that the superstions comes mostely from the older generations. The young one seems not pay notices of these things. Since I do work with the older generation I often hear about them. So some of them I do belive. However, if just a black cat should be of unluck that I do not really know. You really do not pay that notice if you do not see anything els but a black cat on the street. It is when you think about what you´ved heard.
Have a nice day.

I've owned a number of cats that are black furred and they have been wonderful companions and good friends. So I don't believe that they are ill-omened.
I've never heard anything about keys on the table.
The thing about the mirror though started as 7 years /change/ of luck, not 7 years bad luck. So breaking a mirror isn't necessarily unlucky.
I've heard a lot of superstitions. Just a few that I was taught by my Grandma are:
If you spill salt on the table, throw a pinch over your left shoulder. This is to ward off the devil.
Never open an umbrella in the house.
Walking under a ladder is unlucky.
If you see a penny pick it up, and all the day you will have good luck.
I've since found out that the penny is supposed to be heads up. But I pick them up either way since no harms ever really come from picking one up that is tails up.

I did own a black cat once, he was a smart kitten. Never crossed the street before tha cars stoped. However he is gone. About the pennies fond on the street, you should not keep it for your self, give it away and your luck inqrues. That is what I have heard. About key´s on the table I have no Idea about why you should not put tehm directly on the table but I do respond in a bad way. I just do not like it. It has some saying, but have not heard what it is. Sicne I do respond in bad way i never put my keys on the table, and if someone els does, I nicely ask them to put something under, or put them somewhere els. I can not explain why.
thanks for responding and have a nice day.

No i do not believe in such things..
But my parents follow these superstitions...
i always try to change them and i have succeeded a little in changing...
i guess there is no scientific reason for those superstitions.. are there any ??
so all in all i dont intend anone to change their opinions in this regard because i respect others beliefs..
Thank you.

Well I guess this things are for our granmothers these days. I belive this has skip an generation or two. It was more in 1700 centery this was on for a dayli basis among the poor people. However, the one thing I do get shaky about is Key´s on the table. I do not why but I do not like it. My body realy respond to that in a bad way. I never put my keys on the table, and if someone els do I ask them to put them somewhere els.
Why? Well I can not explain.
Have a nice day.

Black kitties need love too! I think the only way that black cats are bad luck is that there are people in the world that would hurt them simply for the color of thier fur. It is the reason that I lock my kitties up on Halloween night, regardless of thier color. I love black kitties, and I hope that I have another one soon. Often they are the sweetest and most affectionate cats. I think they are good luck!

I myself am not superstious but my mother is. If a black cat crosses her path she will turn around and go the other way. Doesnt matter how far out of her way it might take her. She also wont walk under ladders, and throws salt over her shoulder if she spills it.

Hello LightningMD
Thank´s for responding. I did not know what to put in last night so. I guess superstious people are rare these days. I belive it is only our mothers, or granmothers that have those feelings left. It was more in 1700 centery those things was apearing on a daily basis amongs the poor people. I for my self have trouble seing keys on tables. I do not the saying about that, but I get a bit shakiy about it. I never put my key´s on the table and if someone els do I ask them to put them somewhere els but just the table. I do not why, can not explain.
Have a nice day.

i'm not superstitious about black cats. i see a lot of them all the time and haven't experienced the worst luck. i think it's unfortunate that these creatures get blamed for ill luck that people may have.

I own three black cats and have never had any bad luck fall upon myself for owning them. Superstitions are what people make of them. What about people who actually manufature mirrors; they are bound to break more than the normal person. Do you think they have any worse luck than others? I don't think so (if they did wouldn't they quit their jobs, therefore creating a shortage in mirrors?...hasn't happened yet). You can blame "bad luck" on numerous things, or you can take the "bad luck" with the good. Not everything in life is going to go smooth and steady; everyone has hard times, and it usually isn't a specific-colored animal that caused it.

nah, i don't think that's true. In fact here in the philippines, elders have TONS of ridiculous superstitions including the one about the black cat. Now i've broken dozens of these superstitions and not once did I encounter coincidental incidences. I think those beliefs are solely for entertainment purposes :)
