i know when my daughter was 5 i had to leave work to pick her up from school because of lice. Everyone in the class had lice. I was so digusted because as a child i didn't get lice. However, i was so overwhelmed because i keep a spotless house so that my kids don't get stuff like that and low and behold she got lice from school. It was horrible to even have to deal with it but i did and we got rid of the lice. How do you deal with a sticky family situation that you try to avoid but your kids get it elsewhere?

Lice are just a fact of life. It doesn't matter how clean you keep your home or the school it, that happens. My oldest daughter got lice from a friend of hers and her mother was a fanatic about cleanliness! She had gotten it at church. Then my youngest daughter got Lice at school, and we had the hardest time getting rid of them. We had to wash her hair with the lice shampoo every night and pick through her hair, but they kept coming back. We tried every known home remedy. We finally had to get some prescription shampoo from the doctor. Doesn't matter how clean you are, you just can't help it.

thanks for the response. when this happened i just felt like i didn't clean enough and that my kids would be labeled "dirty" at school.

Headlice do not occur due to being 'dirty' or not having a clean house. As you have seen, they are spread by contact with others who have lice! One of the most common ways they spread is by leaning back on theater seats where someone who has just sat who had head lice! They spread by hanging a child's hooded coat too close to the hooded coat of a child who has lice. Lice get started in schools and spread like wildfire! That is why guidelines have been set down (in most states) about things like the distance between coat pegs and other things! All a parent can do is treat their child and send them back to school...and try to realize that the lice is not a reflection on your parenting or housekeeping skills! Ha!

Lice is just a part of life, especially for school age children. Lice have nothing to do with having a dirty household or anything like that and it is people's misconceptions that put a stigma on children with lice.
My daughter has had headlice on and off for a while now and I assure you that it has nothing to do with the way I keep my house. The school actually admitted in the newsletter that they had a problem and it was the school that was not addressing the problem efficiently. I was forever treating her hair, bedding etc.... and yet she would come home again with them.
We have finally got on top of this problem and I can say that I feel empathetic towards those parents dealing with the common problem and would never feel 'disgusted'.

I remember I had lice back in primary school and the only way to cure it is to use proper shampoo. When it comes to removing lice, you must buy good quality brands as the cheaper brands don't work as well in removing lice.

Hello channy,
After reading what you posted, I couldn't hold my smile. Kidding aside, it is but normal for kids or for anyone to be with others. I understand your concern but the reality is that we can't put ourselves in a hole so that we will not mingle with people.
Be patient and clean your kids if they have lice. If not then you might as well lock your kids inside their room... he he.
Stay on the bright side! That's just a little problem. Look beyond your comfort zone and see people dying, crying, without food, and without love.
OTHERS, OTHERS, OTHERS...

Put few neem leaves under your pillow cover before your daughter sleeps. It works out.

Here is a tip you may not have known about lice , lice prefer a clean head to a dirty head so because your child had lice in no way means that she was dirty or that somehow your house was not as clean as somone else's . Lice originate from dirt but will jump to someone who is clean quicker then someone who is dirty . I realize this will not make you feel any better as it is a horrible thing to have to try and get rid of as I had to go through this a couple of years ago with my daughter , and like you I was devestated .
In order to deal with it , we went through the entire house from top to bottom cleaning everything and I was so paranoid that I threw away so much of our stuff for fear of never getting rid of them . I was a little paranoid as I can't stand bugs of any kind and to think that my child had bugs in her hair was just devestating . I did a lot of crying and stayed up til all hours of the night trying to rid the house and my daughter of this problem and even consulted a doctor about it .
I am happy to hear you were able to get rid of them and agree that it is horrible that we should have to deal with something like this as it is often passed on through the schools and parents that are not willing to take the time to get rid of them giving them to our children .
