Is it Back-to-school or Back-to-"Oh yeah, you need to sign this?" Why do kids wait until the school bus is about to get there to ask parents to sign permission slips for field trips? The only detail I had time to read was that it cost $4.50, which I tried frantically to find. Most of it was in pennies.

The rule I made when mine wereyounger was that they had to empty out their bookbags each night, homeowrk or not, make sure everything was organized, check all papers and get any signatures from me they needed. I hve always believed in getting everything together the night before. In my opinion kids who learn how to be organized tend to remember those things after they get older. As long as hey are little ones, they will always wait until the last possible second! lol It would be really weird if they didn't.
That he got mostly pennies will maybe help him to remember to ask ahead of time next time. Im sure he didn't like toting around all those pennies. lol

Thanks. I'd love to be so organized. Procrastination does seem to run in the family. Some never outgrow it.
That's true about carrying all the pennies. I wouldn't have wanted to do it, and when I was his age, pennies were worth a lot more.

Boy, does that sound familiar! The cure I finally found was to ask to see everything the night before, and if the child in question didn't cough up the signature-required things, they didn't get signed in the morning (too hectic for that nonsense around here!). I think each of them had a *very* close call with missing something fun, and that cured them all.
Good luck!

Thanks, and that's a good idea. We had to go through a phase of making sure the night before that everyone picked out clothes for the next day, so this could just be another part of it.

It wouldn't be so bad if I had remembered to ask after school where they'd be going. I sometimes find out the night before that they need to dress up to go someplace. Those are the good days.

The way I deal with this kind of thing, is every single day, asking my daughter, "do you have homework?, do you have anything that I should be aware of or need to sign, if so get it to me now. or you know we will forget." This routine has helped save me alot of headaches. And I am sure it has saved her a lot of embarrassment. I try to stay organized, but it seems to be impossible. So just try to work out a system with your child or children, like I have. It may save you some frustration on down the line. Best of luck to you and yours.
