The five books of The Blending series are wonderful novels that lead one into a new world of fantasy. In this world, everyone has magic in the form of one of five aspects: fire, water, air, earth, or spirit. Most people are "low" talent, meaning that they can perform menial tasks. "Middle" talents are stronger and can accomplish much more impressive feats of magic. But "high" talents are the focus of this series, in particular a collection of people that the government has thrown together to "blend" thier talents in a bid for the five-fold throne of thier country.

Good to see you Schala! I have never read this series. What do you like about it especially?

One of the reasons that I like this series is that you really get involved with the five main characters: Jovvi (Spirit), Tamrissa (Fire), Rion (Air), Vallant (Water), and Lorand (Earth). They are five people that never met prior to the competitions, from different areas of the empire, and yet they end up being closer than any could hope to ever be. The human aspect of this series is so strong and deep, and the characters continue to grow, rather than be confined by stereotypes. I also like that the book is told from multiple points of view, so you know what other characters are doing, saying, and thinking. This gives the series a unique feel, and I notice new things every time I read them. They are a marvelous literary experience.

I just finished the last book of the series this weekend. Now I need to decide whether to read the second series, which is not as good, or not.

The name of the first book is "Convergence". The others are "Competitions", "Challenges", "Betrayals", and "Prophecy". I am currently reading them for the fifth time, partly because I just found the first one again this summer (I lost it for a while) and mostly because they are fantastic books. I hope that you will enjoy them!
