Kid Nation is nothing like Big Brother. Nor do I think Big Brother is making fun of God.
TV wouldn't poke fun at God. Tv pokes fun at the people on it. So they show the characters in the light they think will be most interesting to the audience. Since Amber cries and prays and talks about God they show her doing it constantly. They make Daniele complain about the show Constantly. They show ED only being a...jerk. I'm sure he isn't a jerk ALL The time.
Kid Nation is nothing like Big brother though because it's about kids running their own Town. Someone took "Lord of the Flies" way too literally and decided to create a HORRID tv show Idea out of it. I refuse to watch it and hope it does really bad and goes off air. If you ever read or watched "Lord of the flies" the kids start killing each other. It isn't a smart idea.
Plus it's a total lie. The kids AREN'T alone. Who the crap do you think is filming them? ADULTS. probably to protect the kids from turning all Lord of the Flies!
I don't think TV will go to far until they bring the Truman Show to life.

You have a point about the people who are filming them. Everyone says that ED is horrible but like you said that is how they choose to portray him! I really like him in the game because he doesn't put up with anything and he's honest. That would be amazing to see something like The Truman Show!

Yeha, I'm very Anti Kid Nation. I hope it fails miserably and they show it online instead like they did with Pirate Master.
I love E.D. I love the Donatos really.
I think I'd have to boycott a "Truman Show" just like Kid Nation if they ever did it.

I'm looking forward to Kid Nation. These kids were given an entire town, they weren't confined. They had to develop their own system by making their own town government, setting down chores to do daily, and interact with each other in a communicative manner. Since filming the show, New Mexico has changed some laws that do not allow such a show to be filmed as it was, but I look forward to seeing how these children rose to the occasion. A medical team and chaperones were on set, so nothing could happen to them.
As for Big Brother, it crossed the line long ago. I get tired of people mocking prayer or God, but they feel that brings in the viewers. I think I have a problem with reality shows that don't serve a real function. Big Brother, Surreal Life, Gene's Simmons Family Jewels. It's like voyeurism is the new passtime.

I also am looking forward to Kid Nation. I think that it will be good show and I like the idea that someone gave kids the ablitiy and the decision making to do this type of thing.

I really like Family Jewels actually. It made me realize how stars can be people too. Especially during their face lifts. He is so loyal to his kids and I really like him for that! He may be cocky but I like that show. Surreal Life though has went from bad to worse.

You ought to keep in mind that reality tv isn't completely real, dispite it's name. A lot of scenes, sounds, comments and actions are taken out of context to make it more appealing to viewers. A lot of people love the drama of these reality tv shows and don't realize they should take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying that I am totally consumed in it ... but I have noticed there has been a different type of reality show now.

I think nowadays a lot of reality television are just boring and I don't even know why they come out with more. I think we have enough and enough is enough in my opinion.

Since Kid Nation hasn't aired yet it is really too soon to judge.
Big Brother does goes in different directions on different seasons. There were a couple of seasons where we were seeing a lot of making out under the covers. We haven't seen that the last couple of seasons. This year they are showing a wildly vulgar man run rampant in the house. Even when he is alone at night talking to just the camera he can't keep is mouth clean.
As for God and praying, there has always been someone in the house who has been shown reading their bible. There is no way I can remember who but it is not a new thing to have religious people in the house, they may just be showing it more for reasons of their own. This is the way Jameka copes. Amber on the other hand, I'm not sure. Sometimes I think she is just using it to be friends with Jameka and have something in common with her.
Either way, no one is making fun of God. They are showing us different people in different situations and how each react differently. Something I have to instill in my daughter when she complains about someone - everyone is different and we have to learn to live with people like that in our lives sometimes. With television we are seeing the bigger picture outside of our own little lives.

You know you are right that they usually show the Bible and people reading it. But I don't like the way they are going about it. With the church music behind it. I don't know I just end up rolling my eyes when I see it.

Kid Nation scares me but I'm also interested in seeing it because I want to see how these children cope with their circumstances. My problem with these "reality shows" is there's so darn many of them, the producers are running out of ideas. Also, I'm really tired of these "family" reality shows - remember The Osbornes? That started a string of family reality shows that I really thought were stupid.
I don't quite agree with your comment that Big Brother is seemingly "making fun of God". I've often found Amber's prayers to be focused on her own quest for success instead of praying for the well being of others. Praying to God like "Please let me win HOH..." to me isn't the kind of prayer that God will necessarily answer the way one might expect. Amber reminds me of many church-goers that "talk the talk" but don't "walk the walk". I hope I haven't offended you or your devotion to God.

That's what I think too, TeresaK. And, I also think that it did indeed show us her personality. One thing she prayed for extremely often was "...help me be strong..." Well, myself, as a person who knows that God does answer our prayers, I believe He did answer that one by having her "visions" not come true. Therefore, as a true believer, she should have been grateful each and every time she lost because, in that way, God was trying to help her become stronger.

I guess that's true too...If she was just thinking she could win...I don't know. It does show what kind of person she is.

No you haven't offended me, I just don't understand why they think they need to keep showing Amber praying...and her visions that are not even coming true. iT just makes you wonder I guess what they are trying to prove showing these things?
