We know there are always mirrors in the restroom, dressing table, fitting room and ...
There is a primary school in my place having mirrors on the walls, some at the entrance of the stairs, some outside the class rooms, some are at the corridor ...
Later I get know that this is to let the pupils to keep their appearance of bearing always in the best condition. Lots of the pupils here have to get up early in the morning. They could hardly afford to spare much time on dressing up decently or combing their hair properly. They have to rush to the school buses which are waiting outside. Some even never wipe after taking breakfast...
Do you think this practice will help to cultivate the pupils?
Is this the responsibility of the parents to take care of their kids?
Any other points of view? Please kindly share with us.
Thank you.

The main purpose on the wall is to provide convenience for us to check our appearance whether it’s decent enough. Other than that we could also enjoy admiring our beautifulness so as to get satisfaction with it lol...
Hi yanstill, don’t miss the chance anymore when you ever pass by any mirrors when you come across. For me it’s really a pleasure to watch one’s own physical feature in the mirror. It’s human nature I suppose lol...
I believe you had just come back from your home town and enjoy your summer vacation there.

I feel that it's really a creative way of reminding the pupils to take care of their own tidiness. Although I have not seen it on my own, but I think it will be effective in improving the school image. It's human nature to look at the mirror to see if anything goes wrong with own's appearance, because we can't see how we look like without a mirror.

Sure, if got the chance, I will go over to have a look at such a unique school. Thanks for sharing such a interesting findings with all of us. Besides, I think the mirror might be serving as passive light source to brighten up the dim schoold buildings.

Mirror could really brighten up those dark parts of the building especially the corridor with the reflected light. I have never thought of this additional advantage.
Another advantage I supposed is for safety measure. Should anyone attack us from behind we could notice it before being assaulted lol...

It’s true that there is a school in my place which has mirrors on the wall. If you were to visit my place I surely will take you over there to witness the truth since you haven’t come across any.
Before the invention of mirror the ancient people used to watch their appearance by looking at the calm water or a polished and shining copper plate.
We, the modern people are so lucky that we could able to see our exact image of our appearance in the mirror anytime, right?
In school, mirror could serve a good purpose by reminding pupils of their physical tidiness.

it is a good idea of keeping mirrors in such places because the one who is not well groomed may have a glance at the mirror and corrects himself, some people never want to miss their chance in looking into the mirror because the are very fond of their charm

You are right. The school admin to have mirrors on certain strategic spots of the school is to give pupils the facilities for viewing their appearance when passing the mirrors. This could help to keep them aware of their tidiness.
I’m also one of those who like to have a glance at any mirror or reflecting glasses like glass windows or doors in the shopping mall, glass windows of vehicles whenever I pass by them lol...

Maybe or maybe not. Kids who have been taught to be neat and well groomed will probably check, but I dont think all the kids will care. Some kids just are not into how they look. There are always going to be kids who cannot take their eyes off themselves and others who dont care at all. Then there is always going to be the incident where a kid gets embarrassed cause they did not check something in the mirror. They will be sure to check after that!

Kids do show different responses with respects to various situations as regarding with the reactions towards mirror. Anyway I think most of them will be quite conscious about their appearance. I did find some young kids who completely never bothered about their outlook and what they concerned much was the fun of playing about. Thanks for your informative words.

I think it is totally the responsibility of parents to take care of how the student is looking while going to school. If there's not enough time to get ready properly, they should wake their child earllier, to give time to get properly dressed for school.Having mirrors in the school is not a bad idea, but don't know if the students are well-disciplined,or else glasses can break, some heros may roam whole day around mirrors...ha...haa...ha!!!

The mirrors are meant for those children who are not well cared of at home. After lesson of physical exercise the kids need mirrors too to view whether they are dressed up properly. As far as I know vandalism of school property is rarely happened here. Though some heroes might play the fool in front of the mirrors it is normal for any playful kids.

I think its absolutely unnecessary to have mirrors in the schools. It would rather make children more lazy, all such things as dressing and combing should be taken care of at homes. That's the discipline. If the children are made to wake up early by their parents, they'll find time for everything. Its parents responsibility as well as the duty.

I agree with you. But only for those parents who are always taking care of their children. The school I mentioned is in a rural area where pupils there got lots of problems in their family. Some of the parents there even wake up later than their children. Some parents went out for daily work earlier than their children. Some stay with their dad bcoz their moms are working in the foreign countries. Many of them are working in Japan. Some are staying with their grandparents. I was told many children even go to school with empty stomach. They only have their breakfast during recess at about 10 am. So this is quite a serious social problem in the area.

Waking up early to have enough time to eat, dress up and prepare for school is a good habit to teach children. Schedule is very important disciplene, a man can take up to his adulthood. If a child did not have this kind os disciplene, tendency is he will have time management dificulties until he becomes adult and will affect his job, carreer and future.

No, cher913, our place here is quite secure. The mirrors are for the school children to look into so as to see whether their appearances are tidy and decent. Vandalism of public property in schools is not serious here. Thanks for your kind concern about the security.

Personally I think it is the parents responsibility to make their kids presentable for school. I don't think mirrors are going to make kids be any more presentable than they want themselves to be. In a couple of my daughters schools that she attended in the last few years, there were no mirrors anywhere as a security measure. It appeared that as the kids got older they could be more dangerous.

Hi mamasan, you are right, it is the main responsibility of the parents to make their kids presentable for school. I believe the mirrors in the school in the school are the devices for the children to check their appearances. If the mirrors are properly used I don’t think they could bring no harm to pupils.

I believe it is the primary responsibility of their parents to take care of their kids, to send them to school, to provide them with their basic needs, and to teach them the proper manners & right conduct in & out of the house. With the mirrors placed in each & every nook within the school premises, the pupils might get the wrong notion that it is proper to always carry a mirror and check on their appearances whenever they feel like it & wherever they are. There are a lot of other options to discipline these pupils regarding proper hygiene & grooming.

Hi mykmari, I never though of pupils might get the wrong notion if having mirrors placed within school compound. Thanks for pointing it out to me. Really, good habit should be cultivated in the proper way since young and not to depend too much on the mirror.

I don't think having mirrors everywhere would help. It is all down to manners and habits. After how you are raised up will definitely affect these little things. Like myself, I was brought up to always look after my hygiene and even though there wasn't much mirrors around, I was still a habit that I can do without even thinking about.

Hello dear lkbooi again. I know I was here before. Now I am travelling around and would be very happy to pay another visit here to the same topic. Well, as I have mentioned in the previous response, we have a huge mirror on each wall of the school bathrooms. I often see boys and girls standing before the huge mirrors looking into the mirror for some time to make sure that they look good. I love to tease them, saying that they are beautiful and handsome already and they would always smile to me and feel shy when I say so. Of course, I talk to them in a friendly way as always. Sometimes I also look at myself into the mirror to make my hair look nicer.
I think that a mirror is a must for us to help us make sure we look good and confident, but using too much of the mirror is no good. I have some students who always love to look at themselves into the mirror placed on their desks as to affect their concentration on study...

Welcome with open arms, my dear friend. I’m very glad to see you to drop by here again. Since young I like looking into the mirror whenever I come across any. My father always teased me with the saying that only ugly people was very fond of looking into the mirror. But he didn’t understand that I always enjoyed looking at my appearance in the mirror, it was just like what your beautiful and handsome students doing. Yeah, I agree that a mirror is a must in our life to help us to make sure our appearance is need and decent. I consider that I was a good student as I never ever brought any mirror to into the classroom.

Being put in such a surrounding with so many mirrors will make me feel uneasy. I think there must be other ways to help cultivate pupils.

I think you should always look tidy, but to have mirrors all around the school for them to look at themselves? To me that might make people start checking themselves all the time like vain people, not saying all people that look in mirrors are vain.
