Currently I'm rediscovering how much I enjoy bookbinding. Sometimes I'm just adding leather covers to well loved books, other times I'm starting with the big sheets of paper and sewing the books from scratch then giving them unusual covers. My preference is for traditional, antique looking books though I have also seen some lovely modern bookbinding.
Any other bookbinders here?

Right here!! I've been hoping for a book-buddy! I work mainly with fabric covers... velvet, brocade, etc... but have wanted to try leather!
I do multi-signature accordion books, albums and journals... Japanese stab binding and other hand-stitching... page edging treatments...and my BFF just gifted me with a Zutter book binding system so I can make BIG journals! My house is packed with every kind of paper imaginable, and if I can't find it, I make it! Nobody light a match!
So glad we're friends already... no time lost in preliminaries!

LOL! Sounds like me. I even had to set up a paper screen out in the front lawn one summer because I could not make large enough sheets for what I wanted to do in the house.
Right now I am saving up rose petals so that I can make a journal using rose petals in the paper.

I'm a bookbinder, been doing it for over 20 years and love it.
Although I have done bookbinding professionally, I much prefer to make books for me to keep or as gifts for special friends. So much goes into making a well made hand bound book - particularly when I prefer making the hand sewn old world style books.
I actually found this discussion because I was looking up bookbinding in the myLot search to see if there were other bookbinders here before asking if anyone knows any good website resources for finding old bookbinding techniques. Good to see I'm not the only bookbinder here.

Your new hobby has been discovered. That sounds cool. I used to only wrap my new books till my early thirties, but not now. I still take good care of my books even without the wrappings without getting the pages spoiled in the corners.
