I have two boys 3 and 5 and I dont think they need pop. Its not good for them and makes them hyper. Once in a while like special occasions theyu can have a pop other wise no way! They drink lots of milk, sunny delight, water, and Iced tea! Its so much better for them. Plus they wont have cavities from all that sugar rotting in there teeth! Do you allow your children to have Pop? Why or Why Not?

When my kids were little they rarely had pop; it was mostly a treat on special occasions. As they have become teenagers they pretty much drink as much pop as they want, although they often prefer juice or lemonade.

Don't kid yourself - sunny delight is not any better then pop. It is full of high fructose corn syrup - which is something that no one should have. If they don't get hyper from Sunny D then it is not the sugar in pop that is making then hyper, it is the situation in which they get the pop. Seriously, read about HFCS, then go look at the bottle of Sunny D, it will be off of your list.

my girls are 4 and 2. i don't let them have pop either. they drink mostly juicey juice and milk. every once in awhile they might get pop like at a birthday party or something like that, but even that is only if there isn't anything else offered. i think its better for them all together. their teeth don't get cavities and their growth isn't stunted from the caffine lol.

I have a son four and he has pop which I guess is the same as coke only as a treat. If we go out for a special meal or something. I dont like that it is basically 100% sugar and there are so many other ulternatives available and he likes them more anyway. He drinks a lot of plain milk like I do, and heaps of just water. His favourite drink at home is when we make a bananna milk shake and he cuts up the bananna. If he ever does have soft drink it is normally diet and he never drinks much of anyway, even when he is allowed to. There was a girl that gave her kid coke in a baby bottle, said it helped them with wind. Gee wonder why the kids teeth fell out before the were two years old!! I think teaching kids the better things to eat and drink when they are younger is something we as parents can do in making sure they grow up happy and healthy, gives them a good start.

Congradulations! to all the mothers that refrain from giving their kiddie winkers pop! not only does it cause tooth rot, it produces fat because of the empty carbs and heres the kikker! researchers have discovered that pop changes the molecueler structure of the body and causes heart attacks!

No I prefer my son not to have pop, due to the same reasons you say him getting hyper and cavities... Pop is the worse for cavities that's for sure... But when he does i make sure he brushes his teeth afterwards so the acids and sugar don't stick to his teeth.. One good thing is that's he's been really good about it..

My kids are 6 and 2 and I admit they use to drink pop alot!! I haven been addicted to it forever now so I drink it all the time and I let my kids have it too. But I am trying to cut back so there are some days I don't have any (good for me) and I don't let my kids drink it anymore unless we are going out to eat or it is like at a birthday party or something. I don't really see anything wrong with it, lots of other foods and drinks have lots of sugar so as long as they are eating healthy a soda every now and then is okay with me =)

Dr.Pepper Is My favorite Pop - Dr.Pepper MMMmmm!
My daughter is only a little under 15 months, so NO WAY is she drinking pop lol. I don't blame you for not wanting your kids to have it, and when my daughter gets older I doubt she will drink it until she is older. I wasn't allowed to start drinking pop until I was about 10 I think it was because my mom didn't want us having that much sugar! We also weren't allowed to eat sugary cereals either.

I also try to steer clear of the sugary cereals. Once a month they are allowed to have one box. There are so many healthy cereals that taste good too.

I agree that their are a lot more healthy good tasting cereals, more so then when I was a kid. When I was a kid if it tasted good it was too sugary, and if it tasted yuck it was good for you!

I only let my daughter have a pop every once in a while. She mostly drinks Milk, Water, or crystal lite mix drinks. She is always hyper, so the less sugar the better!! Of corse that doesn't stop her from asking to have some all the time, I just got use to answering no before she can get out the full question.

Hi there. Im guessing pop is fizzy drink... Good for you with the decision you've made, fizzy drink isnt good for childrens health, let alone teeth... I never let mine drink it and now they're older, they settle for drinking water or juice... I know of a mother that use to put fizzy drink in her babies bottle, instead of milk, now her child is older, too big and is so use to drinking it, signs of bad teeth are showing too...

I also knew of a family that gave their kids coke a cola in a bottle, they said it helped with wind? The boy had no front teeth at age two, and the girl had black as black front teeth. The mother wouldnt believe that it was the coke in the bottle that did it, she gave it to the next one too!! My son knows that fizzy drink is for a treat and he is all excited when he knows he can have it, cos it is not an all the time thing. Parents need to help kids start of with good eating and drinking habits, to help them get the best start in life. If they eat bad when they older thats their choice but if we can show them the right ways when they younger, then they stand a better chance of making the right choices when they grow up.

Drinking pop only makes you want to drink more because of the sugar. I have the boys drink juice or water. Sometimes I will make koolaid and reduce how much sugar I put in it.

Water - Go for water. It does a body good!
My kids are older but when they were young, they never had soda or anything too sugary. I can't imagine a little 2 or 3 year old drinking soda. I was careful about juices like grape juice which has tons of sugar and juice drinks too. But at least those drinks have some vitamin C in them. Soda has nothing but caffeine, sugar, and acid. I don't think I tasted soda until I was like 10 or so. We never had it in the house and I hated milk (still do) so I usually drank kool aid made by my mom who used very little sugar or water. Now, my kids are 21 and just about 17 and they drink soda. The older one drinks a big one at night after work and the younger one drinks one soda a day, sometimes diet, sometimes regular. I drink one diet coke and one iced tea a day. Luckily all our teeth are in good shape. My sons have not had a cavity yet and my teeth are good although the darn dark liquid stains the teeth! My sister allows her kids all the soda they want at ages 6 and 9, even before bed. I shudder but they are her kids, not mine. I try not to interfere but she can't figure out why they are so hyper when they are guzzling Coke and eating ice cream before bed!

Yes I do! I take care of my nephew and niece and I have to do what thier parents tell them. They drink pop heavily!! But if it's my kid I would limit it to like once a week, like a treat.

I wouldn't allow them so much pop. For one thing, youths are sensitive to the caffeine at least a good number of them are. For another thing, the junk sugar isn't good for them. Don't get me wrong, they'd be able to have them, but not every meal and certainly not every commercial break.
