Do you give tips to waiters/waitresses or anyone who gave you service? How much do you usually give?

Yes, I usually tip at least 15%. It may be more for very good service or less for bad service. I don't tip at self serve or buffet style places that have no table service which, of course, includes fast food places.

Not really 15% is considered the standard here in the US and is thus what is expected.

Oh yes I do! My mother was a waitress all her life and she worked like a dog for barely anything. My sister was a waitress for years. It's such hard work. I leave 20% unless the person is really nasty then I will leave less. If I get amazing service, I may lave more. Waiters and waitresses get paid a lot less than minimum wage (here in NY anyway) and they have tips taken out of their pay whether they make them or not. I don't think it's fair at all. They should get a decent hourly wage like everyone else and then if someone leaves a tip, it's a bonus. I also tip people who deliver food to my house (pizza or whatever) and hairdressers and anyone in service professions. I guess I saw my poor mom so battered and sore coming home after working 12 hours with just a few bucks and it made me sick to think that she was waiting on people who couldn't even leave her a small tip for all her work.

I definitely will give tips to them. It's a token of appreciation and in fact the tips will make them happy too! I had been working as a waiter during school holiday for 3 months when I was 18 years old. I know about the pleasure of being appreciated by receiving tips from satisfied guests. I was working in a hotel restaurant. Other than serving the guest in the restaurant, we need to run room service for the hotel guest as well, which is much more profitable :) Usually we get more tips when we deliver the food and drinks to the hotel room. Due to such 'lucrative' business of the room service, the competition for the room service is keen among our colleagues. So everybody is so alert and eager to wait for the call for room service, because if you are lucky, you could get a handsome sum of tips from the generous room guests, just by sending some hot water jar or a plate of fish and chips. After the school holiday, I resume my study in the colleage and quit the job as waiter. So, when I visit the restaurant and hotel, I will pay tips to waiter/waitress when got chance. I know they will be happy to have that. Because, their basic salary usually is just able to aford the necessities and tips has become the significant portion of income for them. I am not a rich guy, So I usually give tips to them at reasonable rate. By doing so, I might get better service if I happen to be served by the same person LoL.

I remember 37 years ago, when we were first married, that giving 50 cents or a dollar was a great tip. Nowadays, we give 20%. I know it took hubby many years to think this was okay, but once he did, he doesn't mind at all...unless he has to ask for his water to get refilled, and the waitress never comes back after delivering his food.

I do tip waiters/waitresses. I used to be a waitress and I know how hard they work. But there are a few times where I have left no tip because the service was so bad, or his/her attitude was so bad that I just couldn't bring myself to give her a tip.

Yes, they are so underpaid and they live mainly on tips - so I usually give them minimum 10% as tip that is customary here.

I use to give tips. Now how much deepens the place. If it's a coffee shop sure the tips aren't so huge but if it's a restaurant and specially one of the good ones the tip is higher. Also sometimes deepens at the person too.Few times I gave higher tip just because waitress was so kind and sweet and few times happen just the opposite lol:

Yes, I always give tips to waiters or waitresses in restaurants, bell boys and house keepers in hotels, in appreciation of their services offered. If they give pretty serving I will definitely give more tips to them to make them happier. So next time I visit them again they will offer even better service to me lol...

For normal good service I give 15% of the bill. For lousy service I very pointedly give 1 cent. If I dont give anything they will just think I have forgotten this lets the server know what I thought of the service.
