Most people know that the way you cook lobster is to drop a live one into boiling water. Some people say lobsters don't suffer because they have no nerve endings. I still think they must suffer some. I refuse to eat lobster and I am slowly turning vegetarian because of all the animals who suffer, so we can eat. But, it seems like ther could be a better to kill a lobster than just drop it into boiling water. Lets hear your thoughts on this.

You are absolutely right that some animals are suffering because of us humans. Like we are killing elephants just to decorate our drawing rooms. The decoration pieces are sold so expensive and we humans purchase it. You are also right that lobsters do feel and they are trown alive in boiling water which is not good.

Many, many years ago there was a cooking show I was watching and the gentleman (I think the show was Galloping Gourmet with Graham Kerr?), was getting ready to cook a Lobster Dinner. What he mentioned was something that always stuck in my head,...if you put the Lobster in warm water and heat it slowly, the Lobster just goes to sleep, therefore, avoiding the boiling water method and much pain and suffering. I still to this day, feel better about that choice, even though I can't cook them myself or pick them out at a restaurant, lol. Hope this helps relieve you some.

Well since lobsters are related to insects. I know that warmth makes insects more alive and cold makes them go to sleep. I dont really think that cook knew what he was talking about. Besides you said it was a few years ago. Many things have changed since then. I appreciate your respnse but I have to disagree here and say it doesnt make me feel any better. But thanks. I gave you plus for answering my discussions.

Everything 'living' must be able to feel pain, although not a professor in the natural world, I'm sure that a lobster could feel the pain, when my friend cooked mussels once in a microwave the noise they made was unbearable I had to leave the room, correction house! It was horrific! I know they also have to cut frogs legs off when they're still alive because they are tender when they are alive! Thankfully I hate lobster, mussels and as I have pet frogs wouldn't dream of eating them! I try not to think about pigs because I love pork too much!

Hiya wolfie, my dear sweet friend. I agree, I think they do suffer. I would have probably left the house to if i had to hear suffering of any animal. Thats why I said I'm slowly turning vegetarian. I am gonna have a hard time givking up milk and cheese though. But the meat i can live without. Hugs to my favorite wolfie xxx

I think its terrible that they suffer. I also dont like their claws pinned together when they are thrown into tanks....it seems wrong to just drop them into boiling water,,and I dont see why they cant do it differently....I would think freezing them would be better then boiling them, but I dont eat lobster either...

you know I like seafood but if I know how they are cooked I won't bother eating it anymore. In my homeland, nothing is boiled alive. We buy fresh meat every morning and cook it for the day then the next day buy meat again and so on. I heard in China they do boil things alive there, but not in my homeland. here in Canada too I never heard of it. If it's true they boil animals alive, I too will be come pure vegetarian - I eat vegetables daily anyway

Yes of course I do. They die, don't they? Then they suffer even if it's a split second, they still suffer and die from being boiled. With this day in age there has to be another way of cooking a lobster or any other animal in a humane way. I don't eat much meat for I don't like most of it and what I do eat, I don't eat much of.
