Would you consider selling up and moving abroad...

with the price of properties here in the UK there is a growing trend for people to sell up and move abroad, most seem to be looking at Spain, but is this just becoming another "little britain" where the ex-pats are more in abundance than the locals.
If you are considering this is it because of the money aspect in your home country, the politics or are you just looking for a slower and more relaxed way of life.
Have you considered the language barrier or looked at getting a job where you would like to settle.
The reason I ask is that I have done just this thing and will be moving abroad in about 4 years when my contract with my job ends. Luckily I will get an immediate pension so will not have to get a job straight away, and as for the language, well, I am trying to learn.
Look forward to hearing from anyone who is/has/or has dreams of doing the same thing, all the best,
J.

Hi Jakester519,
I defnitely want to moove away from the Netherlands, but don't know how will we be able to make this happen really. I never enjoyed my life here in The netherlands, as I hate the weather, hate where this country is going to - all the new laws that are making everything and everyone worse of, and more people getting poor. I will love to moove to Tenerife and hope to be able to do it within a few years. As to work, no idea, but most probably i wont need it having an income from a pension, and making some online.

We have some neighbours in Crete that are from the Netherlands and they too are living off their pension. They go back once a year for medical insurance purposes and say that fater two days they wish they were back in Crete.
Good luck for your dreams to Tenerife, may they come true for you,
all the best,
J.

Thank you for the best wishes Jakester :)
and you see how Dutch people can't stand anymore their own country, much like the UK people huh? I'll keep trying and doing whatever we can so that Tenerife will become our new home. And have a nice Sunday ;)

Well I am from Britain and if I moved to another Country I would find it strange to adjust at first then I would get used to it. You might have to get used to a new language and that would scare me if I couldn't pick it up and whether I would be able to make friends. I like living in the UK but, my brother has just move abroad and maybe one day I might.
I have moved a lot from my home Town but, always come back to it. Because although I complain about it whilst I am away I miss it because it is my home. When you live in a place you always see the bad things and think the grass is greener somewhere else. Then you move and realise what you miss is home. You have to be asolutely sure this is what you want because otherwise you will be unhappy.
I also have a daughter to consider and how well she would fit into a new life sometimes it can feel good to run away somewhere, but when you get there you start to see the faults.

I understand what you mean about always moving back home but I have moved around so much in my life with my work that I no longer think of where I was born as my home town. I have actually lived away more than I have been at "home" so I guess I am looking at putting roots down in Crete, that will be my home.
Having children would have been a major consideration for us but as we have none it has made the decision so much easier.
Thanks for your response, happy new year,
J

So where are thinking of moving?
I have thoughts of migrating to New Zealand. I also would like to try Rarotonga or Fiji. All three are pretty English-language-friendly. Language is one of the big considerations for such a move. After visiting Thailand and Cambodia I have some interest of going to one or even both for a few years to teach.
