Making Money on Mylot, Other Thoughts

The other day, I stumbled across a discussion posted by somebody as an "experiment" to see if she could make earnings faster by keeping a discussion going. What she did was asked everyone who stumbled across her article to post a comment on their thoughts on whether or not this was their experience, and asked them to possibly keep the discussion going for as long as possible. She promised to comment on every response received, to see if that made a difference in her earnings or not. Inspired by this experiment, I decided to do a little investigating. I went back to my most recent discussions, and commented on each and every response I received. This was a grueling task, to be honest. Not just because I have dial-up, mind you, but also because I had three pages of responses to one of my discussions -a pleasant surprise considering the nature of the post and what I was feeling at the time. I went back and responded, and sometimes re-responded, until today, when I finally finished up! I also went back to older discussions and responded to those comments - one by one! It sounds a little anal-retentive, but believe me, it paid off. I logged on yesterday, and my earnings had gone up from a little over 80 cents to a dollar and fourteen cents, I think! I continued my work on responding and adding my two cents to other people's discussions, where time permitted. Today I logged on, and my earnings have spiked significantly, yet again! I am now up to almost a dollar and a half! I am seriously surprised by this, because just a week ago, when I decided to start devoting a little more time to being on this site, I had fourty cents. I was still excited to see that number, as a newbie! So my point is this: I want to know how you've found success on mylot. Do you find your earnings go up if you continue a discussion, commenting on every response you get? Or do you find your earnings spike significantly when you do something else on this site? What are your suggestions on getting the most "bank for your buck" on mylot? Of course, I want to do my own experiment too! I want as many people to comment on this as possible, and I will comment back, and we can try to keep this discussion open for as long as possible. I'll repost with my results on whether or not my experiment was "successful" or what other observations I have made, in a few days! Talk...Write...Let me know what works for you and what hasn't! I want to hear your two cents and ideas NOW! PEACE!

Hi Celest I have to be really honest here now I have never noticed I am a Person who will respond back to all the responses that have been made in my Discussions I have always done that but I have never really done any tests as such what works good and what doesn't

That ius a very interesting observation. I remember the discussion you are referring to, which I responded to. I haven't done serious experiments, in the scientific sense. what I am observed is I only earn from two sources: One: is responding Two; starting a discussion (provided there ius one reply) Three: comment on someone elses response, but only once per discussion. I have never really figured out that replying to every person who responds to me arns me anything at all. It is just out of polteness or interest that I reply. Can I ask, in the interest of scientific investigation, on the days you did all these replies to the responses people gave you, did you do any "normal" replies to other peoples discussions, and, did you start any discussions? I ask this, because maybe your increase in earninfs came from that? If you only did comments on every response you received, then I guess you can safely say that this is where your earnings come from. I would be very interested in your reply.

I have to say that you are onto something here. When ever I think a person on My Lot has a valid theory I test it out. I find it hard to do scientifically, as my time zone is way out from My Lots, so I can only be approx. After I read your discussion I started commenting on every response I received. Like you, it took ages. I didn't have time to respond to any discussions started by my friends (less than five), & consequently my points barely went up. The past wo days of my earnings have increased. Not a huge amount, but bear in my mind that I did very few responses, so it has to be your theory of commenting on peoples responses. Good on you for working this out.

Yeah, I am not really a scientific person, but I thought it would be interesting to try out an "experiment" on here. Remember that whole process of experimentation in science class? Yeah, maybe this is more of a social experiment than anything else. I know that it is a really anal thing - scientific experiments. Mine are laid-back, just me observing whether or not something is working, or true...seeing what other people's experiences are at the same time (so I am sort of conducting a survey, seeing as how I did have a question). Now I'll form a theory! Jeanana - I heard that pictures were a good way to get a better rating on here, but I've been leary about doing it because I have dial-up and it takes forever for anything to load! Ohhh well, I will try loading those pics ASAP, because I want to see what that does. Plus, I want other people to peer into my world, so to speak! Peace!

Goes to show you just never know. I was told you didnt make anything for responding to comments in your own posts. So I never even thought to check it out and see. I personally have a hard time thinking of things myself to post on , So I for the most part reply to others' posts.

Yeah, my experiment is paying off. So far, my earnings HAVE gone up, and I've also gained some new friends. Additionally, from other people's responses, my theory is paying off for them too. The more you respond to other people's comments to your discussion, the more you earn! Huzzah!

I really don't focus much on the points. I post comments to other people's discussions. I do notice when I post a pick to a discussion I have either started or a discussion I am commenting on, my earnings go up.

Hi again ma. I'm trying to focus on getting as many responses to comments as I can...I'm also commenting on and reading as many discussions as I can tonight. Actually, this morning. and I'm adding new friends. Check out my newest posts. You'll like (at least one of) them. Love ya!

I never make much money here. I don't post many discussions, so I haven't really tried to calculate how much I earned from them. As far as responses to other people's discussions, I used to get about 2 cents, but now I think it's only 1 cent. I haven't had a payout in months. I think you are doing great making that much. I think the most I ever made was about 70 cents, when I couldn't sleep and spent all night on mylot.

Hi again. I think I was going to respond to a post where you (or somebody else) was talking about starting discussions and going back and forth with a user named Malyck. I'm looking that user up right now and trying to add her (him)? The more friends, the merrier. Just like the more discussions, the more comments, the better your rating and all that other good stuff becomes!

I comment on most of the replies to my discussions, not because I want the added money that-yes it does give you- but because I want to discuss what I have said and what people reply to it. Most of my discussions aren't that "popular" I only think I've had 1 discussion that hit over 20 responses but I don't care. The people that do respond to my discussions are thoughtful and though provoking. I have come to believe that the more active you are here the more money you make. If you posts pics, post replies, discussions, comments etc... you will increase your earnings a lot.

Thanks for your comment, and your insight into the world of mylot! I am getting more into discussion the topics I've posted about - and I'm doing my best to leave a comment for every response I've gotten! This is incredibly difficult to do on dial-up, but I'm really enjoying what people have to say with regards to the things I have been writing about here! My earnings have been a little bit slow the past few days, but I have been taking a little breather from online activities as well. So you're right - the more active you are, the more you will earn. Take care of yourself and enjoy your weekend!

I have noticed that I earn more when I consistently respond to those who respond to my discussions and by also ranking them. Also I try to participate in others discussions frequently. I am trying to discipline myself to no less than 5 discussions a day and far more if I can achieve it. Not always easy with my business and other demands of the day. I try to start 2-3 discussions a week also and add pics when I can.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback! It's good to know that by fostering our own discussions (and not just starting them and leaving them alone) we can really boost our earnings. I've got a huge discussion that I'll now be going back to and responding to all the comments! :) I used to make a good amount by posting images with almost every response I gave. Now I can't do that because they changed the rules awhile back, and now I believe you need to have a rating of 500 to have that option. I'm slowly getting there!

I'm glad to know that you found my tips from this conversation useful for your mylotting and discussions! A lot of people are sending positive feedback to this discussion (and the theories that many people have presented). I heard that posting pictures made you money on here, but as you said, the rules have obviously changed, because I posted a bunch of pictures the other day (and this was done from my crappy dial-up connection, mind you, so it was time-consuming). You're a lot closer to getting your 500 points than I am! Congrats on that, and thanks for your response! It is nice to meet you, and connect with you! Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

I've been wondering about that - how do all of these mylotters get the rights to all of these photos - since that is one of the mylot rules - it must be your photo or something you have the right to use - how do they do it? Half of the photos on my computer won't upload - I guess they need to be minimized or something!

I made over two cents one night when I hardly posted any new threads or answered many discussions- I found a fellow mylotter named malyck - you should check out her discussions - and we answered a few of each others discussions - back and forth and back and forth - you'll find most of our discussions where we find the topic interesting we'll go back and forth on one coment several times - anyway that one night I made over two dollars and she made over three. I average about a dollar a day but I have a baby and can't be on constantly. I can't go back and answer all of my comments, I try but - if you go back and answer old discussions - I have to because I haven't marked best response on a lot - then I find an interesting post I missed - it brings that discussion current again - which I realized after doing this for awhile. So people start answering that thread again. I'll do that sometimes on threads I only get one response on to generate more. I comment on others discussions and if I feel like it, will respond to users responses to other people's discussions. I always spend time answering discussions with no responses just because its something I wish people would do on mine - and I find this has the added benefit of those individuals seeking out my discussions to see if something interests them. I always try to be polite too, even if the people don't really read my discussion just the title or something. Of course, I always go through my friend's discussions - using the butons to the right - which I'm sure you've found - because they regularly find mine and comment on those topics of interest to them. I find my fluffy topics generate more responses then my deeper topics or political ones. I keep posting all of the questions I want answers for though. When you respond to a person's coment - if you can - don't just put - hey thanks but try to really answer the person - as if you're really having a conversation, probe to find out more - just like if it were 'real life'. Anyway that's about it! I have to go to sleep really soon. I hope this was helpful! If you know people who would have fun - of course refer - I don't know anyone who would have the time for this. If they have time they're doing other things. I've made 22.74 in the past three weeks, and thats with some days I was never on or rarely. Happy mylotting - have a fortuitous day.

Hello again Artemis. I think this is the last comment I have to respond to on this discussion! How exciting (after answering two pages of comments, you'd be really excited too)! I'm definitely going to look up this person you say you are friends with on here. Anybody who will help me out by actually engaging in a meaningful discussion with me is worth adding! Especially if that person and I are having a meaningful discussion that she started - because I honestly like giving my two cents! If only I didn't have dial-up, then I could answer these things much faster! I really appreciate the information you gave me and, most importantly, the excellent tip, which I can't copy and paste, oy! "probe to find out more" is the most concrete advice I've gotten this entire discussion. Of course, others left some really great ideas, as well as discussed what has worked for them in the past! I've been trying to give lengthy responses to each comment I get. That way, I make sure to answer people's questions if they had any, and I'm possibly keeping the dialogue open so that we can continue to discuss this topic, if desired. Sounds like you do well on this site - I commend you for that! In the interest of keeping this discussion alive, I'll ask - what are you up to this weekend, anything interesting? Will you be on mylot, or is your time on here random and spontaneous? This is the first time I've spent nearly six, if not seven hours on this site, commenting, and putting thought and energy into it, know what I mean? Anyway, I can't stay up too much longer, as my entire family is trying to sleep and it is three in the morning! Have a nice weekend and take care of yourself! PEACE!

I dont know what makes much money through continuing a discussion or commenting on every response or just responding to discussions by people here in mylot. I cant comprehend the incentive earning program yet here in mylot since I just joined last month

Hi there - I am not sure about the earnings program or how it works. I think mylot should have a guide that spells out exactly how their earnings program works. I hate having to figure out blindly what it is I'm doing. The good news is that more experienced users have some good ideas and suggestions, so feel free to post a new discussion asking any questions - no doubt you'll get plenty of answers!

My earnings just fluctuate and its hard to track how they are really scoring things. I mean I'm mostly a replier, and I still think some of my good posts aren't given credit while other seemingly average posts are given full credit. Its weird, at least on my end.

Hi once again programer! I wish there was some kind of guide on this site that talks about their system for crediting people. I'd sure like to know how we are scored and judged! I realize that the plus, minus ratings have something to do with it, as do the comments themselves. I just haven't figured it out yet. Does anyone actually know? I'm sure somebody has to! Take care, and thanks again for your comments!
