Is it Possible to Raise Your "Star" Rating?

That wonderful "10" star rating! - Here's the rating we all strive to have, that wonderful blue "10" star.

Hello myLotters, I understand that the star rating next to your user name is based on the amount of "+" and "-" ratings on your posts that you receive from other myLotters. What I'm wondering is if that star number eventually stays static, or if it's possible for your number to actually go up. I've seen some posters talk about their ranking going down very suddenly. Would they have a chance to raise their rating over time, or will they always be stuck with the lower number even if they receive more positive ratings in the future? Thanks for your response!

I guess yes, it is very much possible. I remember the first star I got was an 8 yellow star, then it became a red 9 star and eventually that blue wonderful 10 star.. So even if you ahve a very low rating star now, you can still aim for it to go higher. I know people can just give you negative rank for no reason at all but as long as you are friendly and you are nice, you can have a good ranking.

Thanks so much! It's good to know that it's possible for the rating to go up. I guess I've been at 9 for so long, I didn't know if I had a chance of ever reaching a 10. Thanks for giving me hope! :)

Just run your cursor over your star.

yes, if a user continuously rate you negative then for sure your star would drastically go down. and vise versa.

Mine is like a yo yo, it has been a 10 and down to an 8. Yes you can raise it, it doesn't take much to reach a 9 star, but to get from a 9 to a 10, it takes a while and tons of great posts that will get you a plus rating.

I do my best to give a + rating when it is deserved because I think people earned. it. I think you have a good point that not many people bother to give a rating. Hopefully the trend of giving a + or - rating will catch on.

Ratings can go up without us knowing, since there are lots of reasons why ratings change. Most of the times, the ratings changes every turn of the month. This process occurs for about days or atleast a week, since the admin have to go through lots of posts. Aside from receiving the positive (+) and negative (-) ratings from other users, a part of what we'd get comes also from the admin. If a discussion you started or responded at gets deleted due to a violation, you're ratings would most probably go down. So make sure that you do post in-accordance to mylot's guidelines, to avoid such occurence as these. To help you understand more about this topic, I'll post a mylot link about the ratings and reputations that I hope you'd give some time to read; http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/573319.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/436025.aspx

I also heard that it depends on + and - ratings you get. But i really don't understand the measurement or parameter of these ratings. So may be continuous posting of good quality and answering also keep your rating high.

The measurement depends on the amount of + or - you get for a post or posts from a member or a group of members. + are supposed to be given for quality discussion and - are given for abusive comments (paraphrased from the TOS). Members may not rate posts - if they disagree with them (paraphrased from the TOS). Unfortunately it still happens.

That's a good question. I guess I don't know what the actual incentives are. Maybe it's just to show you are a quality myLot member. Your star ranking doesn't seem tied to your earnings at all.

yes, they can incrase there stars by just having some of the + rating because when they will have the 60%of = rating and 40 % of - rating then they will get surely 6 stars. by this type they have to just make some good reponses and some good disccusins by which everyone rates them in +.by this they can incerse there stars.

Well some people here really talks about their stars whenever it goes down from 10 to 9 or even lower. As it's represents as our good reputation here in mylot. Now, to be able to raise your star rating into 10, you must have your responses on the discussions of others be marked as the "best response". And even have some "+" on your responses. Have a nice day ahead from Kiko.
