Are you afraid of the dark?

I just want to know how you feel whenever you're placed in a situation like that. Me?I'm not that terribly afraid, with the shakings and sweats. I just feel uncomfortable. And I tend to be distracted. I always had a wild imagination and when you're in a dark place, well, imaginations can run loose. So, whenever my husband has to go back to his hometown and he can't come home, and there's only me in the bedroom, I let my son sleep beside me and leave a night light on. What about you?How do you feel when you're in the dark?

cetainly i am not afraid of dark for as long as i won't think of anything else around even if that place is so creepy or either has many stories was made, i do not care. but it is normal that e will fear darkness, but for me thats only for sometimes not all the times. when i am in the dark the only thing i could think of is that who would be around me, it is a killer or something because i am much afraid of people than those unseen stuffs around for i know that they cannot harm or even touch me which only visible people could.

That's why for some people, being in the dark gives them the creeps especially when their imaginations starts running wild. Because danger and mystery are associated with the darkness.

To Chenxuhui I understand what you mean. I also get comforted when there are people around me especially when it's dark.

i get used to it already... i always switch off all the lights whenever i sleep so it is pitch dark... but i am similar like you... if i have to sleep by myself and my hubby hasn't come home yet (which is very very seldom), then i have to switch on at least one light...

Hi lingli. There was a time that my husband had to stay overnight in his aunt's house. So, that left me and our son. Even with the night light on, I had difficulty going to sleep because I was already used to have my husband lying next beside me.

I don't like the dark but I can't sleep with a light on at night . When I shut the lights off to go to bed at night I always feel nervous but as soon as I get to bed I have to have everything pitch black in order to be able to sleep . When my husband is not around I will usually take one of the little one's to bed with me but I still leave it dark .

That's a quite problem you have. I always have a night light left on because my son sleeps beside me and he cries when he awakens in a dark room. I don't like the dark too because I sometimes look at the shadows it makes, and I really get uncomfortable with that.

I am not afraid of being in the dark at home. I will just go to sleep without trying to think about anything to bother my quality sleep. The more you think, the less you will be able to fall alseep. Besides, if the light is kept on, I will find it hard to fall asleep unless I am rather tired and sleepy. Darkness is good thing while sleeping for me though.

I am similar to you. I like when there is dark and i can't really sleep when a small light is in the room.

We're the exact opposite. I can't sleep without any light on, even just a little of it. It gives me comfort that somehow there's some light. If you can sleep in total darkness, I can't. There was a time that we had a blackout. It was so dark that I had a hard time sleeping and I really snuggled close to my husband. I was even imagining that the shadows were moving!hehehe.Silly me!^_^

Hello, vitekfdr. Thanks for your response. I think that most people sleep in the dark with no lights on. Hello, jcj. I think that it is because that you have been used to this way of sleeping ever since you were a kid, which is not easy to get changed. It is ok to sleep this way. You are not the only one who sleeps with lights on. My next-door neighbour does the same thing. Have a good sleep with light on.

Hi sexyritch. Before I also need some soft music going on before I go to sleep. But now that I have a son and he want to sleep beside me, I have to give up the soft music. He can only sleep when it's totally quiet.^_^

Hey don't be ashamed of that. If I were in your shoes,I'll have the same hard time trying to sleep. It really gets very, very dark in the province and the silence can get very eery sometimes. Makes you want to think that something might come out under the bed hehehe!Fortunately, you didn't suffer from a much more dangerous consequence of not being able to get a nice decent sleep in one week.

I love the dark. One of the best times of the day - quiet, restful on the eyes, cool after a warm day or crisp with frost. There is nothing out there that is not there during the day. Simple as that. So nothing to be afraid of unless you are afraid of it during daylight hours. Well if that is the case then I feel sorry for you - you've got a problem.

Hi smacksman. I've got no problem with a darkened room during daylight hours. It's just during nights and it's totally dark that I get a little uncomfortable. But I do agree with you that with night time comes quietness and tranquility.

I get scared in the dark..I will admit it, I don't like getting out of the house after dark =) I remember last Halloween I was taking my kids trick or treating and it was already dark outside and my daughter loved it, she said, "We have never been driving in the dark before" like it was some great thing for her =) When my husband isn't home I sleep on the couch in the livig room. I don't like being in our big bed by myself and it is really high off the ground so I don't want my kids sleeping with me, and falling off the bed =)

Hi Michele. There's nothing like a good scary feeling when Halloween comes.^_^ When my husband wasn't home, too, I had difficulty trying to get some sleep. I guess his warm body lying beside me offers me comfort, secured and that there's nothing to be afraid of. I can't sleep on the couch thought. Because for sure the next morning, I won't be able to get up for having to lie down in a small space.

Yes i am afraid of dark but only when i am outside the house or on some loely place. And this fear is not due to ghosts or witches, it is because of unsocial elements and robbers. otherwise when i am inside house and loney i dont fear from darkness. I would suggest you to believe in God and remember him whenever you are in darkness. You will surely overcome your fear.

Hi there. You're right. It's much more logical to be afraid of the ones who are made of flesh and blood rather than the boogey ones. My mother often told us that there's no such thing as ghost. That we should be more afraid of bad people who will try to enter our house and rob us.

We use to sleep with the lights off. I personally can not sleep with the lights on. But my nephew is sometimes afraid of the dark because I know it is normal for his age to have scary dreams that's why he sometimes pee on bed. I am not afraid of the dark.

Hello MisterPlus. My son is afraid of the dark and if he awakens in a dark room, he will certainly cry. He sleeps in the same room with us but he has his own bed. But most of the time, he wants me beside him and with my arms around him. He can sleep better that way.

No I am not afraid of the dark and I am use to sleeping and being alone in the dark. Before I used to live alone in our house in another city and at night I would turn off all the lights before I sleep. Sometimes I have wild imagination too in my mind but I don't dwell on and just ignore it. :-)

You're much more logical than me.^_^. When my imagination starts spinning, I even have to stop myself. You're doing just right, just ignore what's giving you the creeps. I haven't experienced living alone though. But I did experience sleeping alone in our living room when I was still single. There was no other available room so I had to sleep there . I did try to close all of the bright lights and just leave one dim light. I did get to sleep soundly because I was only so tired that night.

it depends on where i am. If i'm just in our place, i'm not afraid to be in the dark, if i'm in the bedroom we keep the lights off while we watch tv. If i would be in a dark unusual scary place with no lights on, maybe i'll be afraid. :) have a nice day!

That's just ok because I also start to feel a little afraid when it's already dark and I'm still outside the house. I'm not afraid of the boogeyman though. Because I'm afraid I might get robbed!

We're just the same. I was also very fond of watching horror movies that I just end up scaring myself. And when the lights go out, my imagination runs wild. Don't be ashamed of being afraid of the dark. It takes time to overcome that. Actually, the first time I watched a truly, goose bumps raising, horror movie that involves a large tv and a ghost girl with very black hair and a terrible eye problem!, I didn't sleep without making sure that the lights are on for a week.

For people like us, we get comfort from having the lights on. Sometimes, the darkness can give us a sense of something is not right.

In fact, I was not afraid of the dark, but after growing up, but more afraid of the dark, listening to ghost stories is perhaps too much, when I am in the dark, I would feel very scared.

My mother used to tell me to stop watching horror movies becaues I was only trying to scare myself. I've outgrown that kind of thing wherein I'll watch scary movies then I'd be scared witless afterwards. I'm not that really afraid of the dark, I just feel a little uncomfortable. Some of those who responded here tell that they are actually more in favor of sleeping in total darkness.

when i was young, i feel terrible trembling as i imaging a friendly ghost roaming around, since i grow older i get to use to it, its because of watching those horror film and some story about ghost when i was a kid, i dont tell those story to my kids, because it may have some bad effect to them always afraid of dark, whenever they watch tv about horror i just told them the it was just a maskara they are wearing, whenever friends of mine tryning to scare my kids they just smile and say hahaha we re not afraid of ghost, maybe your afraid of ghost. they even dare them to go to dark places.

Dark is not very different from day,I think. Everything is still where they were, and house didn'y change.Maybe you feel quite quiet, but that shouldn't be the reason you feel afraid.
