Is located in southeastern Montana. If you have never been there then you are missing a treat. The cost is a $2.00 donation and you get to drive around the "town". Prairie dogs are cute little critters.

Yes, I was on vacation in July but most of August I was busy getting ready for school to start. The secondary boarding school in Michigan where I teach started school on August 20 but we had some students here the week before that for a gymnastics clinic and a music clinic. I have not had much time to be on mylot but will be on as much as time allows.

When I was a kid we had some friends who had a 2500 acre ranch in Montana. We went up there almost every year for vacation. They owned a small campground and had horses and cattle, it was great. Part of their property also had a good size prairie dog town. We used to saddle up some horses, pack a picnic basket and go out to the middle of the prairie dog town for lunch. They are so cute and so much fun to watch! Thanks for bringing back a really fun memory.

I have been to the Prairie dog town in Montana several times now. We would stop there when we went back and forth between Oregon and Michigan.

I am no where close to Montana, but it is definitely on my must see list. More than anything my sister wants to see Montana and Wyoming. I bet I'll remember this, and hopefully I'll be able to put this nugget of information to good use.

I think that you would enjoy the prairie dogs. You can get pretty close to them. I have never tried to pet one because they usually scamper down a hole before you could get that close.

I've never been to this Praire Dog town but when I lived in west Texas, Midland, there was a small park that was right next to a huge prairie dog town. I used to drive there on my lunch breaks and set and watch the little creatures at work and play - they are so funny and entertaining.

They are entertaining and that is why we always stop by there whenever we head out west from Michigan.

After I posted earlier I remembered when we went to South Dakota a few years ago for my #2 son's wedding. While there with my Mom & Stepfather we did some sight seeing and along the way saw a prairie dog town. My step-father, a doctor who has traveled all over the world had never seen one before - it was funny.

That sounds interesting. But I imagine those cute little critters can be a pest if not controled. But they are cute. I remember those Disney tv shows which sometimes featured animals. They were cute. We dont have prairie dogs but there is a place near here which is a protected area for Prairie Chickens. Go figure.

I have heard of prairie chickens but have never seen them. What state do you live in? Yes, a lot of ranchers do not like prairie dogs because of the holes they dig on the open range and it makes it easier for cattle and horses to twist or break their leg in one of the prairie dog holes.

I live in Texas. The Attwater Prairie Chicken is an endangered species which lives only in the coastal plains of Texas. The Attwateer's Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge is near Eagle Lake, Texas which holds an annual festival for them.
