I graduated when I was 17. I think the majority of our graduating glass was 17. I believe somewhere along the way, they changed the cutoff date for starting school and now we're finding more 18 year olds in highschool. Do you think this makes things more difficult. Is an 18 year old less likely to listen to their parents regarding homework and after school activities than a 17 year old. Does the fact that at 18 the are legally and adult make them think that they don't have to take school as seriously? My brother teaches in a highschool and he seems to things students become more difficult when they turn 18. I find comfort in the fact that when a child goes off to college they may be a little more mature at 18 than they would be at 17.

I was almost 20 when I graduated, I started late, but anyway I think age really doesn't make a difference in high school, it has a lot to do with the person and what they are teaching these days. My mom tried to help me with homework once and she couldn't do it. When she was in school, the highest math they got up to was Algebra, now it's what we learn in the 7th grade. It's amazing the differences...

Age has very little to do with how much a student dedicates themselves to their schooling. Although, at the age of 18 students(in my area atleast) are allowed to sign themself out of school with no consequences. These days though most kids are 18 or just turning 18 when they graduate. Turning 18 shouldnt make them that much more difficult though then they were when they were 17, so i dont really understand what your brother is getting at lol.

At age 17 and out of school is hard on them to get jobs and good ones my grandson Graduted at 16 1/2 went to special school. and then he had to really wait till he was 18 to get a dicent job. So 18 isnt a bad age really to graduate. And they all are not legal age yet at 18. 21 the going factor here for being legal age . Oh they think they are grown but they really arent well maybesome are have to take that back. MOst girls are really level headed and know how to handle their selfa at that age.

My son was 19 when he graduated and things really did not change much from 18, he knew I was still the boss. He never really did his homework (school was always a point of contention) but he did not get worse when he turned 19. But may be by then he saw the light at the end of the tunnel and decided to not push his luck

When they first turn eighteen, it is common for them to start having delusions about how grown they are. All you have to do is let them get a little taste of the real world and they will calm down.

I know a year can make a big difference but that's why it's even more important than ever for 18 year old to listen better.Hindsight is always 20/20.

I was 18 in my last year of high school back in 1962 and I think most of our class was around the same age. I don't recall there being mush trouble with the students getting their homework done back then. i think it's more of a different mind set to day. Kids ae given much more freedon now than they were then. A lot more kids a more rebellious now than ten too. I really don't think age has that much to do with it. I think it has a lort more to do with the environment with the kids to day.

I believe the main reason is,that they are not learning anything and fail their classes for this reason. have them learn the same lessons (up-graded) as we did in the old days. start at 8 am and stop for lunch at noon and be back in class at 1 pm. do not allow computers, calculators or other forms of machanical systems in class. make them use their heads and memories. I see far to many collage graduates that cannot even do normal math, nor can you read their handwriting. I sometimes wish that medical help for depression was known when I was growing up,I may have stayed in school longer.

I'm not sure if I buy that. I graduated high school when I was 18. My birthday was April 4th. I treated school very seriously, graduated with a 4.5 grade point average. Age has very little to do with school dedication. Twerps come in all ages.
