Which software or computer programs slow down your computer?

So, what software programs slow down your system? And, how do you deal with them? Do you get rid of them or just use them less often?
Whenever I click on a .pdf (Acrobat Reader) file, my computer freezes up and slows way down. Sometimes it can take up to ten minutes to restore all my windows to their proper place. For awhile Internet Explorer slowed my computer down to a virtual crawl, even after I switched to broadband.
But, my spy ware zapper slows it down even more. Guess that's because it's busy checking my system. Small price to pay so that I can surf online without prying eyes on my computer. And, of course the worst software programs of all, would have to be spy ware. So far, spy ware and trojans have been responsible for destroying three of my computers.
Once I went to a website and had about 100 pop-ups in less than two minutes. About a week later, my computer crashed permanently.

well i really don't have any programs that slow down my system, because i use a best program, winoptimizer, so i don't have crash or block system.
if you don't wanna have a crash system, when you surf on the web, you must install a program killer pop up
or spam search&destroy.
acrobat reader ia a particular program, for me you must install "pdfcreate", or pd95 for read a pdf file.
i hope to help you,bye myry

I think your advice is best by far. Haven't had a crash in quite awhile either (cept the flawed design of my laptop, but I digress). Definitely invest in killer pop up blockers/browsers, anti-virus and a round the clock spyware terminator.

My old computer had pop-ups like those security software Win Protector 2007 and Error Protector. Every time I download these programs, I began to have a computer system slowdown. Lately, my computer crashed. Now I have to use a rent computer, because I cannot afford to buy a new one.

Well, apart from my studies,my hobbies include Graphic Designing and Animation...and Photoshop CS3 and AutoDesk 8.0 did make my system very slow.It just freezed for a few moments and I always had to wait for the results for some time.
Once I installed Mac Cafe(Antivirus) on my system and in the atartup,I just left my computer for atleast five minutes to be normal...Fortunately,I have a less heavier antivirus now...

Almost any software program will slow down the system because it is using the system's resources to some degree, but with many small programs it will not evene be noticeable.
Anti Spyware and Anti Virus programs are the most common ones to create a serious slowing down of the system, which is due to the fact that they are constantly running. The only solution is to either increase the system resources by using a faster processor and more RAM, or to use a program that requires less resources to operate.

Limewire really slows down my computer, and occasionally iTunes will hog the memory. Someone explained to me that Windows XP is prone to Memory Leaks, where all of a sudden a partcular program just takes over,

You can hav many apps...but dont do multi tasking...tat is not more than one ofr two apps at a time..this greatly slows ur pc down..other thing is your RAm and processor...if it is still slow you need to go for a upgrade..as the softwares are becoming more bigger...

I am annoyed using all BETA versions of any softwares, programs or sites because they slow down computer processes particularly when you are surfing online. This explains why I do not use at all beta versions of hotmail and yahoo email services because they definitely open very slowly. Using also the Adobe Acrobat Reader when opening files like .PDF makes my browser to freeze for many minutes. I notice too that when you use IE7 I feel annoyed because it loads very very slowly. Website with too many videos and pop ups decrease your time for uploading their pages. Whenever the anti virus system begins to check viruses in my PC, browsing starts to slow down.
