Whats wrong with my discussions???

Im not trying to sound like a Mrs know it all, but I feel Im starting a few good discussions here and no respnoses to them. So what exactly do the people here on myLot want to discuss??? I see hundreds of posts for some of the silliest things, and hundreds of comments to back them. Is it all too repetative? Is there a way that I can look through some not so popular discussions and weed out what has already been said over and over? Ok is it my friends list? Do I not have enough friends is that where the comments and ratings come in? Im hitting 100 posts and I dont feel adequate enough to be here. :(
Can anyone give me some suggestions, useful suggestions not just BS?? I really enjoy blogging and interacting with people, but I guess I need help on the interacting part? Im accepting all criticism here good or bad!
Thank you.

Well you really need to start out making a presence here on mylot. I should know, and I'm still nowhere where I want to really be, in terms of discussion creation. All I've basically done is respond to people up to post 500. I then slowly started my own discussions, but I'm competing against some people with larger post counts and longer time here (so they have more friends and more chance of getting responses to topics). Also note that some people really find it difficult to find discussions. Theres a lot of stuff to go through, thousands of discussions. And on top of that search function isn't all that great. There's a lot against getting responses to discussions. In my case its because mine are too serious or people don't want to read them (yes even the lighter topics). It happens. I'm just gonna continue with what I do.

I really dont want to compete, I just want to be involved!! lol But I understand what your saying here. I get nervous when Im going to hit the start discussion button....I think is this one going to flop! I try to be a little debatable, and at the same time have sum fun with it. I would like to have serious discussions with real life serious issues from time to time. I did think that the friends thing might have a lot to do with it, cos like you said its hard to keep track of certain discussions around here and your friends will get notified of when you start a new one and vice versa. Ok, lets work on my friends list! :)
Thank you Gamer!!!

I think some of it is that your topics are very serious, and serious discussions usually work better after you have more friends that you know enjoy those types of discussions. My first few discussions were flops as well, and then after I'd been here a month or so and knew more people I had a lot better luck, no matter what the topic was.
You might try searching to make sure your topic hasn't been done before, just by putting in keywords related to your topic under "discussions" in the search bar at the topic of the page. Sometimes even if it's been done before, if it was a really long time ago or you think you have a different perspective on it, your discussion could still be worth posting. But if someone did it last week then it's likely not going to work now.

No problem! I love to meet new people, that's why I'm here. It's really nice too having friends who are newer users, because then I can help them get started some by replying to their discussions. I know when I first started back in January I felt the same way for a while, that no one must have found my discussions interesting or I must not have been doing well, but now that I have a lot of friends and interests, I've found that I almost always have successful discussions. =)

I struggled with the same thing early on. First, read the FAQs and guidelines so you'll know if you have been wasting time reading and replying to discussions that will eventually get deleted, and also so you know not to start discussions on those topics. You may have already done this.
Secondly, get a lot of friends. The more friends you have, the more responses, the more money, and so on. But check your friend's profiles. If you disagree with some of the things they have on their page, you probably don't want to add them to your friend list because you may butt heads later. I don't mean just agree with everything, but the big important things you truly believe in.
Also, every single mylotter goes through this. It is hard work to get responses. No one can expect to be a hit right off. I remember just having one response to my discussions. Also, easy fun questions are answered quickly. I experimented with that theory once, and posted a discussion entitled 'Can You Swim?" I can't believe how fast people starting answering.
Most of all, have fun, and this will start to get easier and easier. I wish you the best of luck!

That's not really true. Because the best response doesn't give extra points or money, there would be no reason to not answer it. Some people give it after a couple days, or some wait a couple weeks like I do. Although, I have given it early before. One time I did a topic and got so many answers that I thought, OK, if I give a best response, they'll stop leaving responses (I had just started mylot). Oh, but they didn't! The responses kept coming and that was one discussion I wished giving the best response would have stopped more replies. LOL

Your Welcome!
I thought your response was really informative and you were very polite.......not that eveyone was else wasnt! haha
I almost dont like to pick a best response, I dont want to hurt anyones feelings! I do rate a + to everyone that replies to my discussion though, just for the simple fact that they took the time to read it and reply.

Waffles. I would like to discuss waffles.
Why do you suppose there are waffles? What was so horribly wrong with the humble pancake? Did someone get angry at a pancake one day and start hitting it with a balpein hammer only to step back comb his fingers through his hair lamenting, "What have I DONE?" Then, did someone come by and see the tragic scene, look at it and say, "You know, you might just be onto something there ya big wimp! Quit bawlin' like a little girl and let's come up with a name for this thing!" Did they then develop the waffle iron?
What if the origin of the waffle iron was something even more sinister? What if Eli Roth had invented the waffle iron? Would he have used it for what WE use it for? I doubt it. That guy's a sick puppy.

Eli Roth makes horror movies (see imdb.com for Hostel)and he did a mock trailer for a movie called "Thanksgiving" that ran with the movie Grindhouse last spring. The trailer was so gory I was more than thrilled by the fact that it wasn't a real movie. The premise behind it is that practically every other holiday including Christmas has its own horror flick but Thanksgiving had been left in the dust.
For the record, the info on waffles came out of my demented head and is purely fictional.

Hi there! You are lucky because those who responded you are those with stars. Maybe there are few who have the same interests as you are. And your discussions were posted in those interests where only few mylotters dare to open. Good Luck.

Don't feel bad. I have about the same number of posts as you do. I have only started one discussion myself though. I only got one response though and got a bit discouraged so I haven't started one since. I will, but I am just taking my time and commenting on others.

Actually Im feeling much better about the whole situation...thanks to all you guys!!!
Nothing wrong with getting a feel for the place by only responding to discussions. I think myself I try to hard to come up with things instead of allowing them to just unfold.
Best of luck to you! And thank you for your reply!

I checked your discussions and I thought they were very interesting. I'm not here a lot so I miss a lot of the good ones. As a matter of fact I am away from home (Florida) right now (in Tennessee)for a marketing convention.
If you have noticed the ones that do get a lot of responses are never serious and sometimes downright funny!
Congrats on your star. I just asked to be put on your friend list.
Have a great morning
