Do you consider yourself Liberal or Conservative?

I mean this both politically and socially. I would extend it to all the fields. Some people i know basically support conservative positions in social items, and that shows in their political opinions. Others, however, are the opposite.
Then there are people who are politically conservative but socially liberal.
How do you consider that you are? liberal or conservative?

Hmmm - probably in the middle. Over the years I have voted for all 3 main parties here in the UK. I tend to read all the manifestos and think about the issues at hand when a General Election comes up, and then make my decision. I certainly don't vote for one party just because my family always have, or anything like that. I guess in many peoples' eyes (especially some of the US posters here), I am probably quite far-left liberal, as I oppose the war in Iraq, loathe G W Bush, and am quite outspoken on Human Rights, Gay Rights etc. But then you know that this is pretty much the normal way of thinking here in Europe - so I will stick to describing myself as being in the centre!

Gay rights? trust me, not everyone thinks the same about that here at all. True that most oppose to bush and his stupidities though. I would say i am quite liberal socially, but a bit more centered in other political and economical matters...but i wouldn't define myself as a conservative at all, even though i don't think there is anything wrong at all with being one.

I would like to consider myself as socially conservative but politically liberal. I have always been supporting changes in our society and government. Even now that my country would want to change our system to parliamentary which I am all in support of. I am socially conservative because no matter how open minded I try to be towards others, there are just things that I just can't do, but I don't condemn others in doing those things. I guess it is part of my upbringing.

I would suppose that in social issues, I'm very liberal. I think people should be able to do what they like, provided they're not hurting or negatively affecting anyone else.
In most politcal issues though, I'm very conservative. I think that the UK state benefits are too generous, I think criminal justice is nowhere near harsh enough and other things like that.

I'm pretty liberal when it comes to most things. However, I do hold some conservative viewpoints. I don't think however that people can be completely liberal or completely conservative unless you were raised that way and are rather set in your way of thinking and life, which really is a terrible way to go about your life, never considering someone else's viewpoint and not taking stock in what you believe in. Anyway, it's tough to gauge a person solely on their political views anyway, just because one person thinks something on one thing doesn't not mean they think that way clear across the board.

Extremes are not good, i agree with you. I don't always agree with those who call themselves leftists. I hate some of the things they defend, as i hate many things conservatives defend. I guess it's a matter of listening to both sides and all kinds of different media to make your own as-objective-as-possible conclusions.

I am conservative on both social and political issues.
I consider myself to be a Conservative Constitutionalist which basically means that if it isn't in the Constitution, then the government has no right to do it.
On social issues I am Right of Center or on the conservative side of things.

well that's a quick and accurate explanation. thank you for it, destiny. I may not agree with you neither socially nor politically, but in the end that's the less important of all :)
