I've a double OS: Linux & Windows XP.
*
When I'm in Windows, I use Avast antivirus Windows to catch viruses and Windows Defender for spyware - malware. I also use Firefox's no-script. I don't venture on the web outside of a few of the safest places and never get mail in Windows so I've not caught a virus with this configuration.

In Linux, I keep Avast antivirus for Linux, although the Linux virus is rare. So for that matter is spyware - malware in a Linux machine. I mostly run Avast so I can net up the Windows viruses I catch in the mail so my Windows only friends don't get them. I only use Linux for mail and surfing in 'bad neighborhoods'.

I use advira personal edition - antivirus/aniworm and adware SE personal edition - spyware/malware.
I also mask my IP address with smarthide, and clean my sysetem of all internet tracks with privacy mantra. Keylogger is also installed which hides every key stroke make with random keys.

Good for you. I am using Avira Antivir Classic Free Edition. It is very light on resources. It updates regularly and you can schedule this at your convenience. Since using this one, I never encountered any problems at all. It is very effective for scanning any viruses or malwares. If ever you want to download this, you can visit www.free-av.com. It is 100% free. If you have any problems, you can contact one of the GmbH members there by visiting support at forum.avira.com. With regards to antispyware, you can download superantispyware which is very effective also in terms of scanning for spyware and adware.
That's it.
Hope this would help.
