Well the attatched photo shows one reason I dislike fall season. These are or were my treasured lilies. I have a couple beds with a few varities of lilies. They have finally died off & turning yellow/brown and it's that time of the year to cut them back. I also need to transplant a bunch as there are around 50 or so in this one area and it's geting very crowded. So I need to lay out a new plan for a new area for my lily bed before I start cutting and transplanting. My phloxx are about done. Well all but my Lavendar, beebalm, and seedums are done for the year. So I've a lot to sdo as far as planning new beds etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Isn't it nice, though, to know that you did it, and had something to enjoy all summer long? My cosmos are STILL going strong, and they are so bright and beautiful. I'll be sad when they die off after the first frost. Last year I planted some Iris bulbs late... I'd say June or so. In Nov. I had some blooming iris out in the garden. Now THAT was a surprise. LOL! I walked by a garden this afternoon filled with morning glories. Those little vines are only to bloom in the morning hours. These must have been part 4 o'clocks, as they were still blooming this late in the day. Winter is coming, too quickly, I'm afraid. Enjoy those last little flowers as long as you can. (take them in a dry 'em, so they can keep you smiling all winter!!!)

It is reat to have enjoyed the beauty of all my plants and flowers this spring. Now I've the fall bloomers to enjoy as well. My Clematic suddenly popped out about 6 more flowers as well. And I thought it was all done a couple weeks ago. I've plenty to dry out too. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thank you for the BR, Grandpa Bob. :) Is there still things blooming? I noticed my rose bushes have more buds on them. We had our first frost this week (3 weeks earlier than normal!) I'm afraid another one will be the end of my garden. :(

Oh yeah—the work that comes along with Fall—in the flower beds and in the garden- I agree—I love looking at the flowers all through the Spring & Summer- We are taking out a whole flower bed this Fall- starting from scratch- we have this awful vine that keeps growing back year after year- through the mulch- so we are digging everything out- and roto-tilling the dirt- hoping to get its roots. Fun fun!

I am doing the same with my lilies. Well that's my plans anyhow. I am going to move them. Move other flowers/plants to there, then find a new spot for the lilies, on and on, and on. Ugghh. More work than I care for but it's all part of my flower beds. I am looking for a tiller as I do everything with a shovel and that's a lot of work. Especially when it comes to my veggie garden next spring. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Do you think you would enjoy your flowers as much if they were there all the time? I think the lack of permanence is what makes my gardens special to me. That's not saying I don't miss them. The anticipation though, reminds me of children at Holiday times.

You're absolutely correct there. I never really thought along those lines. But I guess I really look forward to the next years bloom just as much if not more than actually seing them. Thanks for an eye opening response also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You can start transplanting some of those beautiful plants to me if you want to! ha ha ha......It's really too bad that happened and I can understand your not liking the fall for that reason. All your hard work and look what Mother Nature of all people does to it.

I can relate. I have a huge garden with many plants in it. The roses still look beautiful but it's getting colder and colder and soon I'll have to cut them. I have a question, which lilias look the nicest according to you? Just asking because I want to plant some lilias next year, but I'm not sure what kind of lilias grow on a very sunny and not too dry place and which look nice of course.

Well personally I love the Asiatic Lilies the best. Also nice looking are Star Lilies. But my choice is Asiatic in a variety of colors. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sounds like you're quite the green thumb, my dad is the very same way. Now is the time to start picturing what you're gonna do with the landscaping for next year, I'm sure that that beautiful thought will make things seem a little better. :)

I know what you mean, my flowers are all brown. I am planning to plant some new beds. It rained last night so the soil is most. I am going to go out and dig up the soil later.

Yes, it's that time now. I don't have many plants and stuff because I definitely don't have a green thumb. LOL So I don't have to worry about cutting them back and transplanting them. My husband's grandmother usually comes over and plants things for us in the front yard. So if anything gets done out there (planting wise) then she does it.

A lot of gardening to keep you busy. You can spend time drawing up new beds when it is two wet and cold to go out side. I do not have any bulbs but two so I do on replant them. LOL I do not do much like gardening on the grass or weeding so I have a gardener for the grass, bushes and weeds.

Yes it is that time. I just have pots with plant in them but they are looking very sad right now. Another thing is that the neighbors walnut tree has already shed it's walnuts and most of it'l leaves and they didn't even turn colors....

Rain Lilies_Zephyranthes candida - Rain lilies are late summer blooming bulbs common across the southeastern states.

The rain lilies (Zephyranthes candida) were just one of the thousands of plants he grew in his 50-acre garden near Calion (Union County), just north of El Dorado. This rain lily, a member of the amaryllis family and native to South America, produces foot long, slick, green, rush-like leaves from thumb-size bulbs.

During the heat of late summer, especially after a summertime cloudburst, solitary white, funnel-shaped blooms appear. The blooms remain open for three days or so, but new ones will appear over the next month, seemingly at the whim of the plant.
wow!!!you are 'green thumb' person Grandpa Bob!!!. You did planting and gardening on your own? What made you started? That was very great.

As a little child I recalled the gardens my mother had. Which I had to weed and hated it. So it's sort of a tradition I would say. I never had a garden until 3 years ago. That's when my wife and I bought our first house. Now each year my garden gets bigger and bigger. I guess all that weeding as a child influenced me sort of? Hahaha! Thanks for responding. HAPPY POSTIMNGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

hi,i am skye ,i want to tell you that fall is the best season in a year, you can be long for . the plant's flowers die because the fruit will grow up.so fall is a plentiful harvest.though the flowers are seared, but they gastate offspring.it is a beautiful thing ,isn't it?it also means what you pain, what you gain.
