I just came back from sitting on the porch and then laying on it, just watching the stars and enjoying the weather. Its really something. Just take a favorite drink, watch the stars, think about memories and people long past. Or think about the present and what you intend to do next with your life. One can even gaze up to the heavens and wonder what the future holds, for the self and for the world. I always think this is one of the best things a person can do. Even our ancestors did things like this all of the time.
So what do you think of this. Have you done this or something like it? Or have you somehow let this pass you by? I think everyone should just spend a little time doing this. If you've got a spouse or loved one, you can even gaze with them and talk to them.
I know this isn't 120% quality for a discussion, but I want to see what everyone thinks about this. Have a good night!

Rofl, I was about to fall asleep under the stars myself. Thats how at peace I was. Plus it was warm and there was a gentle breeze, all perfect for a good rest.

I love looking to the stars on a crisp autumn night. They are so beautiful. Often times my husband and I will sit on the porch and look to the sky together.
When I was a child I remember laying in the grass and pointing out the constellations. I couldn't do that now. I have forgotten my lessons from astronomy classes.

I only know 100% of a few of them, and others I'm fairly accurate on. I'm only able to see a few of them from my porch. Plus I get to see a couple of very active/novaing stars from my side of the porch. Its quite a sight to see, lots of flashing and I can see the star flickering between colors. I don't need a telescope to see it too.

I totally agree with hairdresser, programer; you are so eloquent with your words. It was very romantic. I don't have a porch that I can lay back on and gaze up, but I've taken my 9 year old son, CJ (who has Autism) outside a few times on the weekend to show him how beautiful the stars are.
He's unable at the moment to understand the significance of the beauty but he loves looking at them. I pray that with time and patience I'll be able to teach him all about our wonderful world.
Thank you so much for a wonderful posting. Sleep well.

Sitting outside on the porch at night is one of my favorite things to do. I love looking at the stars, and on clear nights, the clouds moving over the moon. I think the best when I can relax outside. It's peaceful and it clears my head. I like looking at the sky night or day.

Same here. Watching the clouds go by on a clear looking day, or even a well lit night is pretty relaxing too. I've always liked that kind of scenery in the sky since I was little.

Hey Gamer!
That sounds perfect! I have done this and I love to loose myself in the night sky. You can see stars falling, you can pick out the outlines of the great constellations and just say "Aaaah". Its VERY relaxing.
Not long ago they had the meteor shower thing going on, Im not really into astrology or anything. I cant even remember the name....well Ill go find it.....lol Perseids meteor and they call the debris St Lawrences Tears. The story was pretty cool actually. Ill see what I can do to re-write the correct link text, as I cant copy and past just yet...dammnit lol
I dont think I was in the right position or something, I didnt get to see it. I did try to witness it though, they say its a beautiful sight. I think Im going to make a better attempt next year.
But yes, you can actually, or atleast I can, get lost in the moment by watching the night sky. Its romantic, even if your alone! lol No Im not lying there doing things to myself while Im watching the stars....hmm that could be an idea....IM JOKING!! lol Anyway....heres the link, and its got a great pic of it.

Thanks for sharing that, I liked it! Incidentally, I went outside again just before bed and saw a shooting star. I wonder if I was able to get my wish off.

Your very welcome Gamer!
Well I hope that your wish does come true!
We sat outdoors last night and it was a beautiful clear sky, no shooting stars that I saw though.
:)

I get the same sort of feeling sitting around a camp fire with some others while camping. As you are doing that you just know you are doing something other humans have done for thousands of years.
I think star gazing is a lot like that sitting around the camp fire.
No matter how advanced or civilized we become, something stays the same.

It is nice to just simply "be" while gazing up at the stars. Hubby, the girls and I go in the back and lay on the trampoline many times in the summer to watch the sun go down and then to star gaze as they begin to pop out one by one. First we compete in seeing who can spot the most as the sky grows darker and darker, then we all become real silent as we drift away into our own thoughts. It's quite wonderful. I think about the past mostly. I remember me and my oldest brother, whom is no longer with us, would star gaze together as children. So it's just natural to think of him and remember the old days. Then sometimes I just lay there with them all and stare at the stars while taking in the moment of just being there.

Truly great! I almost imagine myself right there, doing those things.
Very sweet in my opinion!

I like going outside and watching the stars if I have a chance and if someone will come with me. I mean, the night is really quiet and I love being able to see the stars, especially whenever shooting stars appear. It's just a nice atmospehre especially if there is someone out there that will share it with you.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I just went camping in August and the amount of stars that are out in the middle of the woods is amazing. I could watch them all night. I tried to convince my husband to unzip the top of the tent so we could fall asleep just looking at them. He wouldn't go for it though because it was too cold. He's such a baby!

Its totally a 120% discussion, and beautifully expressed. I have done it. Nightime is my favourite time to do this. Not only does it engage my mind and all of my senses, but it seems to awaken my body and mind and to deepen my senses and thoughts.
Nowadays, I sit outside - can't lay out as I have a tiny concrete patio out back in my tiny yard, but I sit out there with my baby and just drink in the night. He sits far back in my lap and just gazes up at the starts. Since we have a fence around our little yard, its upwards that our gaze is drawn, to the sky and to the mountains in the distance. We really need to do this more, but I feel compelled to do the expected thing and have him in bed early and do this only on his fussy, teething nights. I'm questioning this though, as days have been too hot to breathe and to bring him out for long except for a very short while early in the morning, so I may take him for a stroll at night more and sit and star gaze at one of the many playgrounds on base...maybe take a friend on base along who I haven't seen in awhile...we both get caught up in our every day lives, and she problems with her husband which she likes to talk about, and I like to listen to if it helps. Maybe some more star gazing would help us both put things in perspective.
I don't think of the past too much, but rather, try to still my mind as much as possible and just be. Feel my baby's warm body, which used to exist inside, as part of me. He's outside now, but still connected.
Its generally just him and me at night, as my husband sleeps days until a little before leaving for work @ 2:30P.M., and works until 12 A.M. My husband loves the idea of space and stars, but rather then staring at him he loves to do research on things related to them on the computer and in books. He's county director for Mufon for both Sandoval and Bernallino counties, and that's part of what keeps him busy at night when he comes homes and on weekends. Its a huge interest. I'd prefer to watch the stars then read about them, given a choice of the two. Likely I don't have the right kind of mind to truly understand astronomy.
Anyway beautiful post. You know I love going to discussions, sometimes of friends I normally go to, sometimes not, and running into comments from other friends. Funny how we all seem to end up in the same places!

Its really great. Yes it is disappointing life's problems continue once the stargazing ends, but its great just to take that moment and let it all go while watching something almost indescribable.

I enjoy watching the moon and stars a lot. I do this almost every night. It is the part of life on earth. It is the reminder of God's sign of love in our hearts. Yeah, the stars and the moon are the most important things to keep in mind. They light up the night.

Respectable comment and at least a proof of something truly wonderous. Its interesting because those stars are right there yet in reality they are lightyears away from us physically. I seem to describe it a bit differently each time, but isn't that expected. Its lovely and glorious, spectacular in my view.

I looove gazing at the stars. Even when I was little I remeber looking up into the heavens. It is such an easy way to get lost in yourself ... thoughts of who you were or who you are now. Sometimes not thinking of anything and just looking at the beauty of nature and enjoying it to the fullest.

It's been quite a while since I've done that. I love stargazing. I need to do that sometime soon.
Right now I'm not up to speculating about the future though. I'm working on short term goals for now.

When I was about 4-5 years old, that is what we do out in the porch together with my parents every night, I do mean everynight after dinner. We go outside and gase on the stars, watch planes go by and meteorites fall from the sky. I still remember those days, those were some of my fondest memories I have with my parents. They're both are still with me now, but we don't got to do it anymore. I guess you know why. Cheers!

i use to look up the sky at night and gaze at the stars (they are very pretty to look at), specially when we we're little kids. Sometimes, my brother would take out his guitar and we all sing outside the porch and just enjoy a very good evening. :) God Bless!
