Pixel Ads Profits
Alex Tew is a 21 years old student and lives in a small town in Wiltshire, England. He would be be starting at University in England at the end of September, 2005 where he would be studying Business Management. Education in Universities is not cheap, and he faced with the prospect of graduating after 3 years with a huge debt. He thought he would try and make some money on the Internet. He conceived an idea.
What is the idea?
The idea is simple: to try and make US$1,000,000 by selling 1,000,000 pixels for $1 each. A computer screen is made up of pixels. All modern computer monitors have hundreds of thousands of pixels. So, he would create a website. The first webpage would display the advertisements of the sponsors. If you buy 100 pixels, then you must pay $100 and your ad will be of the size 10X10 pixels, that is a total of 100 pixels. Sounds crazy? Actually he did not believe $1,000,000. By talking big, he thought he would earn a few thousand dollars that would take care of his university expenses.
Thus, 'The Million Dollar Homepage" was born on 26 August 2005. Everyone was welcome to buy his pixels, which were available in 100-pixel 'blocks' (each measuring 10x10 pixels). The homepage was divided into 10,000 of these 100-pixel blocks (hence there are 1,000,000 pixels in total). Smaller size ads would be too small to display anything meaningful. When you buy some pixels, you can then display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image click through to your own website.
The pixels you buy will be displayed on the homepage permanently. The homepage will not change. Using some of the money he would make from the site, he guaranteed to keep it online for at least 5 years, but hopefully much longer. He wanted it to become a kind of internet time capsule. So, in the long run, he believed the pixels will offer good value.

He was smart and very innovative. I really salute for this kind of innovation. He really done and took advantages on that opportunity. Make me more energetic to plan one new innovation on the internet...still looking at it!!!
One of the factor to make a person to be innovative is desperation. Just like Alex Tew, he used his competency to generate huge some of money....that was great!!!!
