I had a friend , a naval colonel for that matter who would skip his dinner if he had a sumptuous mid -day meal. I would not agree to this style but am surprised to observe that he lived together for 87 years without having any serious health hazards.

It seems once your body get used to a routine, it can pretty much survive. My father-in-law ate breakfast at 9:30 am, and another meal at 2:30 pm, everyday. He lived to be 86. No matter how many times we tried to get him to eat at different times, he never would. He claimed that his body told him what it needed and when. He did not have any serious health issues either.

It is said that we should take light food at night.Heavy dinner causes many problems. Indigestion, insomnia etc. But I am doubtful about totally skipping the dinner.Atleast I can say about myself that i can't stay totally away from food at night.I will not be able to sleep with all those rats running inside my stomach...ha..ha..ha!!!!!!

Hello sukumar794, For me it depends, skipping food in the night will not affect your health and its ok if your stomach still feels full and not hungry. But if you are hungry and will still skip eating at night its not good for your health.
I sometimes do the same thing as your friend, once or twice in a week. There are days that I had a full sumptuous lunch and would not feel hungry the rest of the day so I would just skip my night meal. :-)

Hey s794,
I've heard meals are suppposed to go like this: eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince & dinner like a pauper.
Of course here in the south we have supper too so I don't know where that fits in I guess you pig out at supper time LOL

I like to have my three meals a day, but they are small meals. I don't think anything is wrong with skipping a meal if you had a big lunch. Sometimes if I have a big breakfast then I'm not even hungry at lunch because my body is used to eating the small meals.

whether you agree or not, that is how it should be.You do not have to be full to be healthy, all what the body needs is enough nutrients to keep it functioning well, at times too much is enough. If one is younger , one needs more food to burn so it is ma must that one eats 3 times a day and as one grows older, one only needs enough food for their functionality and it is much healthier.

Many of my friends eat a large lunch and skip dinner. They don't have weight troubles like me and I think they are healthier than me. I just feel to hungry to skip a meal.

They say that if you want to lose weight, to not eat after a certain time. I believe it is after eight at night, but do not quote me on that. However, I do believe it is better to eat five to six small meals a day. I gather that this friend was lucky or he had a strong constitution. Me? I just have to look at food and I want to eat.

If you are consuming enough calories in a day, I don't think this is an awful thing. Granted, it is better to eat your allotted calories spread out through the day, but if there is one meal to skip, I think Dinner would be the best. You need breakfast to give your body the fuel to start the day, and a big lunch is fine, since it's the middle of your day, and a great time to refuel. I sometimes skip dinner, because it's the end of the day, and if I don't have any big chores, it's the meal I can miss. I think every body is different. my husband rarely wants to eat dinner, and I see nothing wrong with that for a healthy adult, as long as they are eating enough calories every day.

Your body is a magnificent piece of work. It can adjust to about anything you put it through. I am sure his body became adjusted to him skipping his meal and as long as he ate healthily and obviously he was in good shape for being a naval colonel. So, he lived a pretty healthy life. That may have attributed to his living so long.

Our body and the digestion system is somewhat habituated with what we do. If we have a perfect routine of taking meals in time daily then one can take meals as per his wish, that doesnot effect your health. If somedays we skip meals then that may effect health. Meals should be taken in time that's important.

I don't think so, if he is eating breakfast and a big hearty lunch, then skipping dinner shouldn't cause any health hazards. It depends on what he eats I suppose! I wish i could skip dinners LOL

Long life is still a secret. I have known people drink and smoke heavilly and lived into their 90s and those who do not smoke or drink become ill and look old in their 50s.
I think a lot is to do with genetics and partly down to a positive mental attitude.. :-)
