What do you do when you hear a loud noise in the next room?

Just awhile ago, I was busy posting away on My Lot, when I heard a loud thud and crash in the next room. At first my mind went to my daughter who was still sleeping and wondering if perhaps she had fallen out of bed. But, I didn't hear any crying. So, I quickly checked and saw that the cat had climbed up into the window and knocked the blinds down. Big sigh of relief. It was nothing major. Some nights when we are alone in the house and she is asleep I will hear a thud or noise coming from the front room and wonder if it could be a prowler lurking outside in the yard. At those times it's very scary. Most times it is just a dog outside the house bumping against the front door looking for scraps. But you can never tell. At times like that, my mind goes through all the possibilities. It proves for some very tense moments. So what's the first thought that pops into your head when you hear a loud crash or noise in the next room? Do you always assume that it's a possible burglar when you hear a loud noise in the next room? Do you blame it on your cats and keep working? What do you do?

When I hear something fall and make a noise in the other room, I usually think one of my dogs did something, or a lamp turned over. But even if I see my dogs are no where near that room, I'll go check it out immediately. I figure if it IS a burglar, I'd rather confront him/her now than later.

I don't usually think something bad has happened. We've got so much stuff in this house that it's not unusual for something to fall over. But we alway check quickly just in case. It's an old house so not much would surprise me. It could be anything from a box falling over to a broken pipe so it's worth checking out. The last really shocking thing that happened was about a year ago. We were sitting in the livingroom one evening watching tv. It was raining and thundering outside but all of a sudden we heard a terrible thud and it shook the whole house. My husband thought it was just a loud thunder clap but I told him I didn't think so because there was no echoing rumble. So we got up and looked and it turned out that a car took the corner too fast and hit the tree head on next door. If the tree hadn't been there the car would have hit our porch! It was a little freaky.

I always get up and go look- or I send my sig. other- I won’t ignore it or assume its something- I usually think mess! What has the cat gotten into now- and how long will it take to clean up- : ( Or I’ll yell- Pooh- you ok—if I know she is up- Yep mom- I just dropped the ball or something- A lot of times the noises come from outside- with some new thing the sig. other is working on- I yell at him to quiet down- : )

Hello beautyqueen26, Normally when I hear a loud noise next room, I will be as quiet as I could. Honestly, I am scared and my heart will beat faster than usual. Who knows what will happen next. I don't have pets at home and I am living in a high rise condominium. So pets or stray dogs or cats are definitely not the reason. The only matter to me is a burglar. Last time when I was alone, I didn't feel scared too much but now, I always think of my son's safety. Whenever I think of possible danger, my mind will keep thinking on how to save my son first.

Hello beautyqueen26, When I hear a loud noise in the next room I would check it out. That's usually my reaction when I hear something loud or unusual. I don't always assume that its a possible burglar when I hear something like a loud crash in the next room, I usually think its a cat or something was not properly put on its place. :-)

If I'm in a house and company is over in other rooms then I usually leap up concerned and investigate. If I'm alone, I'll check on it a bit more calmly. More often than not its something that fell over or someone dropped something. At least everyone's okay and if something was wrong at least I'm ready for the typical stuff.

I just wait and see who sounds the alarm. If my toddler made the noise, he usually cries or laughs, depending on whether or not he did it on purpose. If it was one of the pets, the others usually bark and tell that pet off. lol If it wasn't any of them, they growl, so I know my attention is needed immediately. Even if I knew who made the noise, I still go and make sure it's not something I need to clean up. If it was my son, I make sure he is okay and give any hugs and kisses that might be necessary. If it was the dogs, I make sure they aren't getting into food they aren't supposed to be into.

It depends. If its at night I creep into every room and check to see what it is.First I check on my kids though. But if someone is here with me then I feel a little safer as to go to each room to see where the loud thud came from. But during the day I usually get up and check.I guess the day isnt as scary to me as the night.

I usually drop everything I'm doing and check right away. I usually think its my son that may have fallen out of bed or something or rather. We are on the second floor so it would be tough for someone to get into our windows so the only way they could get in is our front door or porch door. I lock all our windows everynight and everytime we leave the house!
