The stars do count

September 12, 2007 6:22am CST
Did you know our star ratings (DRS) do count for more than how much your posts are liked? I know many do not know this since I at least post this information 3 times a day to discussions asking about the stars. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx DRS - Discussion Rating System "The DRS is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm, so this will help us properly reward valuable contributions to the myLot community." So now that you know this, will this change how you will post here and how? Do you know any other things about Mylot many seem to be unaware of, feel free to share them.

I learned about it long time ago, that's why I make sure that I post less numbers but are in good quality. I believe I've been saying that to some of my post, but other's are just too hard-headed and stubborn at times!;)LoL I don't just comment on other's response, because it acquires more time and effort. Just try to make my point on my own post, so I can atleast make sure that I earn and shared something that makes sense!;)

That is the smart way of doing it rijin. Post for quality and not quantity, in the end it pays. :o)

That's why I have a low post count, I am somehow "choosy" and careful in every posts I make!;)

I value this post...but still notice so many unrated comments and discussions on nearly every site I visit...even this one. Even those who contributed in a rah-rah way to my 'rate, rate and rate' discussion are still not following through. To me it is the first thing I do after reading a response. I guess I just got into the habit of doing it as a priority. If it does enhance earnings and prevent abuses it is beyond me what so many are still not doing it. Anyway, hope you don't take issue with this...it is just an observation...and I refuse to end up with members thinking I am the ratings nagger...but maybe we all need to keep reminders going to help all of us keep a commitment to covering each other's backs and maintaining the integrity of the site. Good to be back in touch...we haven't chatted in awhile. Best regards, Raia

Oh I have no issue with you at all. I rate as I read as well, it helps me keep track as to where I left off. So far after rating you, I am up to date ;o) I have not picked a BR yet, but to be honest I haven't had the time these last few days at all, heck these last couple of weeks. LOL, school starts up and I get loaded with work.

Hello Perspectives! Most respectfully, I think there is a little misunderstanding at your part about rating. I'll try to comment on your rate, rate and rate discussion too. Rating is a 'unique user' function. It means that every discussion is free to be rated by a user, exclusively, whether or not it has already been rated by others. For example, even if this comment of mine is already rated by 30 other users, it will still appear as unrated 'to you' unless and until 'you' rate it. And, even after you have rated my comment, it will still appear as unrated to any other user who hasn't rated it yet and who comes after you to this discussion. I hope it is clear, if not, I'll appreciate you ask me for further clarification:-) Thank you for the best response, sunshinecup!:-)

Whats sad is mylot has turned this site into a popularity contest and quality doesn't matter as long as people like you. Thats the biggest problem I have with this site. It doesn't matter if you post discussions that mean something or contriubte to this site, if someone gets a bug up their a$$ to rate you negitive and go on a minus rampage you still don't get squat from this site. So the stars don't have crap to do with the value of your post it has to do with who's a$$ you kiss on this site. Frankly I'd rather make nothing and stick to my morals and not kiss peoples a$$es just to make a few pennies. If they want me to kiss up to everyone just so they can give me a penny then they've seriously got me mistaken for someone who needs their money.

Ok I will say the same to you as I did Raven, I like you for who you are right now and everything you post. You don't sugar coat in anyway and you know that isn't bad. I like knowing where a person stands on an issue and not someone that will stand behind a pretty smile and a book for of everything I want to hear. You know? I rather disagree with you, then be humored by you I reckon. So I am glad a penny can not buy you. BTW no I don't think those stars give an accurate rating of our posts here. I have seen trolls with 10 stars that post some hateful things around here. That is for the birds, if you ask me.

Well thanks, its nice to know that you understand what friendship is really about. Most people like to write off folks they once called friend the moment they disagree with them. Hell at one point or another I've anoyed, pissed off or flat out argued with at least all of my friends, but thats what makes us friends. The fact that we are differnt but we resepct the fact that we are different and value eachothers opinions on things. Thank you for respecting my opinion and knowing that even when we don't see eye to eye, you'll have a friend in me.

Now do you see why I get perturbed when my rating goes down? lol....I don't think my discussions are that uninteresting yet my rating keeps going down. I'm sure it has something to do with the person who was putting "mature content" on a lot of my discussions. As for things that some members may be unaware of? I would have to just put the link to faq's here because a lot of members seem to not know a lot of the guidelines.

Now do you see why I get perturbed when my rating goes down? LOL, I know, I know. Mine won't move. I have been stuck at the same percentage for months. I have at last count about 2,500 best responses, but I can't get my star to move by one percent? Oh well, I just have to keep at it and maybe one day it will improve. BTW you are a wonderful poster so for your star to drop, that would upset me as well.

sunshinecup do you remember when you commented that we were both at the same percentage? Well I guess it just takes time time and malicious intent for the number to drop and for me they(???) have finally succeeded.

Thanks for making us aware of this. Then maybe those who have had their ratings decimated by those with some other agenda should alert Mylot when their stars suddenly and inexplicably drop and change color. Surely if they are this adept at using the system to allocate earnings they should be able to track the culprit/s who are reducing the earnings of credible, committed Mylotters. Whiteheather's star went down...so how will that affect her proprietary earnings. One of the ways we all might be able to avoid having the trouble makers create hassles to to make sure everyone...at all times makes sure everything is always rated. I go on site after site with no ratings. To me that leaves the field wide open for them to come along and give negatives to those who least deserve them. Just a thought. Cheers...Raia I posted a special sunshine comment...to you..I finally got it right! Thanks for you help in making it happen!

Interesting. I really must get round to actually reading all the FAQ's and guidelines someday! I must admit I'm surprised the star ratings do affect earnings because I know people on lower stars than mine that make much more money than I do on here. However, it won't affect anything I do - I mostly rate people positive anyway.

This is news to me. I had thought they were a sort of informal way for us to see how others had responded to things. Now that I know this, I feel a bit worse about the fact that I don't have a 10 star. I don't know what to do about it - I don't know why I don't have a 10. I hadn't worried about it before, because hey, no ones perfect. I probably won't worry about it tomorrow, I just don't think about it very much.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that the quality of our posts influenced our DRS, I thought it was a sign of popularity and since I have no referrals and few friends (as compared to some Mylotters), my DRS rises so slowly. Also I am not the one to mince words, so I thought maybe now and then someone gives me a negative rating. But no, it will not affect the way I post. I have always maintained that Mylot doesn’t pay me so much that I can run my family, I am here only to connect, communicate and interchange ideas and perspectives. It has been a very rewarding and enriching journey and as always, I will respond only to those discussions where I can add something worthwhile and avoid one-word, inane types.

Yeah, I knew about that... Infact the better the rating we have, the better chances for us to get paid well... To maintain those ratings, we need to post meaningful discussions and give good meaningful responses, and also try giving tags to whichever discussion we are responding to... Tags mean a lot here, they show whether u were really interested in that discussion...

That is so weird because I know I have asked them if it made a difference and they flat out told me no. Hope they make up their mind. Maybe having a 10 star gets me .003 more than a person with a 2 star. LOL
12 Sep 07
I know when it first started here with the stars, they said it would not have an effect on our pay and that it was just for us to use as a means of picking posts to reply to. I reckon they have changed their minds since then, LOL. I came across this one day just checking to see if anything new had been added to the guidelines and FAQS and was surprised to read that. I do know some earn more than others, so I knew there had to be something more to it than just how many posts we make in a day. I know some that make more than I do, and I post way more than they in a days time.

That will not change the way I'm posting right now, because I think my posts are good the way they are:P But I've been thinking for some time now, that it should be taken in consideration when something is counting our earnings. Now I know that it is, thank to you :D To be honest I never read whple faq or tos... Maybe I should start to:P

I do not think that it will change much about the way that I post here to mylot. I have been posting as much as I can when I have the time. This semester has been a little rough on me. Last week alone I had 4 assignments and a test due and got them all finished with about two hours before the deadline. I think that when I do get the chance to post here though that I put a lot of thought into my posts. I post to discussions that I can really add something to instead of just a one liner.

This is good that you hav started this discussion as I think many members someime forget to check everything and its so fine tune, better to remind us all in this separate discussion. Also I have read it before but you know, can't remember always so as I have seen it now i will remember for some days for sure. Thanks dear for this valuable reminder

I just went to have a look at the dr's faq and got to admit i did not get any wiser. I still haven't got the foggiest clue as to what "is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm" means? Though i did not get much of the faq's tho, i got to say that i did not like what it says anyway. Maybe that is why i dont understand. Subconciously i do not like and instincttively block for these information, lol.

Seems like they only monitor abuses of the rating system if its positives. Negatives seem to be lock stock and barrel. Don't believe me, I've got a legion of great posts under my belt. Anyone is welcome to see.

all are trying to be stars so naturally we need to be rated here i think otherwise what is the point of discussion of things not required.it will definitly change the way you liv that is my experience from mylot. i dont know how many of you agree with me dear!
