Our country of Australia has bushfires, droughts, floods & storms. Our worst disasters are by far the big bushfires we have in summer.
The worst one I can remember was in 1983, when a firestorm ripped through our state & Victoria killing 75 people. It cause millions of dollars worth of damage.
Some of our bush fires develop into firestorms and they are so bad.
What is the worst kind of natural disaster than your country has?

The area surrounding the gulf coast in the U.S. has had many hurricanes over the years with many deaths and much destruction. We've also had our share of earthquakes and of course, the volcano erupting on the West Coast. Anyone of them could claim the title of being the worst.

The worst natural disaster in America has probably been huricane katrina. We have a lot of natural disasters here: floods, tornados, fires, severe storms, and huricanes, but Katrina was very bad especially because of how poorly it was handled by the government, they were spending too much time on anti-terrorism and did not do what was neccessary to help the victims of the huricane until it was too late.

Yes, I remember Hurricane Katrina very well, & the slow response to help people.

The United States is a very large country with many natural disasters. My area has had several major earthquakes and fires. Sadly, each year many people lose their lives to fires set by careless people and each summer millions of dollars are spend on putting the fires out. I will admit some happen and nobody knows how it started.
Many of states have to deal with flooding and you will see people in trees and on top of their homes. The last few years some areas have received a very large amount of water. Some of my friends in Texas have had a very hard year.
Some of the other disasters are Tornado and Hurricanes. Basically, if you live in the United States there are many different climates and weather conditions.

Yes, I guess the US is so large, & covers a wide diversity of climates & geological structures, it is likely you are going to get a variety of natural disasters.

Hi jennybianca! I have seen those news about natural disasters in your country especially the bushfires. It is really horrific when i saw those kind of news and it is sad to see how much damage done in the properties and in the lives of those people involved. Here in our country, we have earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons, floods and drought which also leave us with so much damages and what's worst are the deaths that came to be because of the natural disasters. I did experience one worst scenario which was in 1991, when a volcano near our area which was dormant for so many years became active and then erupted. This has claimed many lives and have left so many damages. Our city that time became a ghost city wherein almost all the people left their houses and moved into different towns who have offered shelters. Our homes were covered with ashes and volcanic debris. I am just glad we have survived that and I hope that we will all overcome every natural disasters that come our way. Take care and have a nice day.

I will have to say it was the Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We are all still recovering from that terrible storm. We've also had some bad fires and other hurricanes to also do great exstensive damage.

Here in the Philippines we have lots of typhoons (the Pacific version of Atlantic Hurricanes), flooding, lots of volcanic eruptions, lots of landslides, and occasional earthquakes.
Which one is the worst? Hard to tell because so many people die every year from all these calamities.
Personally I've been lucky so far but I remember when I was in college I underwent the toughest driving challenge. I was driving from the province back to Manila, through the mountains, going as fast as I could because the typhoon was right on our tail. Trees were falling right after I passed them! Whew! Thank God we made it safe.

That would have been extremely scarey. I have never experienced a typhoon, although we do get hurricanes in the north of Australia.

You did have a disaster, but not a natural one. I saw a documentary regarding an explosion that nearly wiped out a whole town somewhere in your country. I don't remember the exact date or anything, but I DO remember that it was bad.

I can see your pint here. Even if Politicians are not a natural event, they still cause a disaster!

We have several ones that have happened here just as you do in your country. Brushfires, hurricanes, droughts, floods, earth quakes, tsunamis and storms that cause fires. There was one earth quake in California which a bridge collapsed and killed a number of people including the buildings too that collapsed. Then the south coastal borders with hurricane Katrina which do incredible damage which they're still recovering.

Our country's most disastrous and worst natural disaster is earthquake and flood. It kills a lot of lives and damages a lot of properties. So everytime it visits our country, we are all in mourn because of the havoc it leaves us.

Earthquakes are terribly scary & unpredictable. I know floods are just as bad in terms of damage, but sometimes these can be predicted.
