Does your cat drink out of your sink?

Today I was going into the kitchen to make my morning cup of tea and caught my cat up on the counter drinking out of a cup that had been left in the sink. I don't understand why my cat would want to drink out of the sink, when she already has a bowl of water next to her food?
Sometimes my big cat does the same thing, except he'll get into the tub and lick the bottom of the tub where the water is dripping out of the faucet. Does anyone else's cat do that? Why don't they just drink out of their water bowl?

My cat would drink out of our glasses when we set them down. I got tird of having to get a clean glasss every time I turned around. So i finelly gor a large mouthed glass and set it aside for the cat. She loves drinking from her glass. Now she leaves the rest of our glasses alone.

It is normal. The water in your sink or tub is much fresher than what is in their bowl. The best way to prevent them form doing this is to invest in a cat water fountain. The water continuously moves so it stays fresh and cold. Think about it, would you want to drink out of a cup of water that sat out all day?

My cat drinks out of the sink sometimes, too. She drinks from the bathtub, toilet, human glasses, whatever she can. She doesn't drink out of the pet bowls (we have 3 water bowls for them in our house) unless she can't find water anywhere else.
Maybe she thinks the water tastes better if the dogs haven't been drooling in it. :) That wouldn't explain the reason your cats do it, though.

Loki and Darla both wait for me to go to bed so they can steal my water. They have bowls of water of course-but those are for common pets! Lol...drinking from your human's glass is so much more refined. I just wish Darla would stop dipping her paws in it...she's like a raccoon-has to wash first.
And then there's Grace...who will not stop using the dog's bowl. My husband hates that-his littlest "kitty-girl" drinking out of a drooly basset's dish. I think that's a lost cause...:)

My cat use to drink from the bath and every sink in the house and I couldn't understand why. It wasn't until I realised that my might also dislike drinking from plastic. Plastic drinkng bowls collect smells from the environment and then leach into the water. So the first step was to replace her bowl with a ceramic glazed dish. The second thing was to put the bowl near her favourite drinking spot and gradually move it every week. The other thing is you must make sure that you wash the bowl everyday and fill it with fresh water. It worked for me but sometimes they do lapse, old habits die hard. Drinking from baths can cause little situations. Trying to run your bath for can sometimes be a mission especially when your cat is in the bath. They slowly get the message when the water starts rising and their feet get wet. What is it with Cats and water:)

I always catch my cat in the bathtub. I don't know why, but he very seldom drinks the water in his bowl. It is strange isn't it.

It may be part of their natural instinct to want fresh running (dripping) water. I think pretty much all cats do this. At least all the cats I have ever had seem to have done this. They also like to sit on the birdbath and drink out of it. It may be that they want to do whatever they should not, just like naughty kids. Mine will also drink out of a puddle on cement outside.

Yes mine will drink out of dirty cups, toilet, bathtub, sinks and even my bath water while I am in it! I don't get it either, they always have two bowls full of water. I think they just do it cause the can really.

Our cats have a thing for the sink, too. They always have fresh water in the bowl...
Usually they will sit in the tub after a shower and look at the drain...like something interesting is going to come out of it.
They will go to the bathroom sink for the running water. They will stand with the front paws in the sink and back ones on the counter. Then look at me like 'Well....?'

I have three cats. One of them will only drink out of a running faucet. If you go into the bathroom she jumps into the sink and if you go into the kitchen, she does the same thing. She will sit in either sink and look at you until you turn the faucet on for her to drink from. The other two will drink out of their water bowl. But, not the high and mighty queen. LOL

Our cats actually prefer to drink out of our coffee cups or our plastic cups.
They just are such good friends I do not think they realize that it makes any difference.
Cats are more human than many people are
and are alot of fun to watch.
They probably watch us and think we are pretty funny sometimes.
I really love our cats.
