Do you prefer to use teflon pans?

I do not like them. I have used them, and you have to be really careful what type of utensils you use. I have found that once you ge a scratch in them, they are pretty much useless. They start to chip, and peel and they just aren't any good. I love the old pans. The ones form the 70's and 80's that are pure metal, and they are avicado green and ugly as sin, but I love to cook with them. I have also had bad experiences that teflon is NOT really NON-STICK. I have trouble getting things off of the teflon once they do stick too. Which do you prefer? Have you found anything that works as far as keeping teflon from chipping?

I like to use Teflon pans for some things, like cooking eggs. I use the teflon spatulas when using this pan and have not had any problems. The pan needs to be cooled off before washing. The extreme temperature change can cause the teflon to be damaged. For other types of cooking, I like to use Magnalite cookware. For soups, stews, gumbos, chowders and making roux, I love Magnalite. It is easy to clean and heats the food evenly. I have used cast iron. There are some things that are awesome cooked in cast iron, for example cornbread. My grandmother always used cast iron for cornbread. It just doesn't come out right cooked in anything else.

I learn something new everyday. I did not know that the extreme temp change could damage them.. Hum. My mom says the same thing about cornbread, It just doesn't taste right unless you cook it in cast iron.

I don't care much what the pans material is.Just being safe and simple is enough for me.But my boyfriend don't like to use teflon pans. His reason is there are ceramic pans in our house,we don't need to buy new teflon ones.So funny reason!

I use only non-stick pans. They're fantastic, and true, in the old days the teflon did peel off. Not anymore. They're not as delicate, and don't scratch like they used to.

I use Revereware pots. They are stainless steel with a copper bottom and they have safety handles.I don't cook, i just heat up. The closet thing to cooking i do is make a box of macaroni and cheese. But when I do, I use these pots and they are great. It doesn't matter whatever utensil I use because they are steel. And they are easy to wash.

I like teflon for some things. It just needs to be treated right. It shouldn't be put in a dishwasher for example, that's part of what makes it not non-stick. No metal utensils, that's what scratches/tears the coating. Burning a teflon pan will ruin it. And it needs to be oiled a little every now and then. More than teflon, I love calphalon. I also love to use stainless steel and cast iron.

I really didn't know that puting them in the dishwasher would cause them to not non-stick anymore.. That is really interesting. Maybe that is my problem.

I do prefer teflon since it is a non stick pan. I'd cook with no difficulty in it. Since I used it, I haven't encountered any problem using it.

I have had nothing but trouble, but I guess reading some of these I have discovered why. LOL I did not take care of them properly.

I agree, they scratch up and get ruined much too easily. I used to use them quite a bit. They made things like pancakes much easier to prepare and clean up after. Then when I heard about the harmful chemicals that might leech into the food from them, I stopped using my teflon pan.

I hate the teflon pans. I try to be careful, but they always end up being chip and peel. I had some club brand back in the 80's they were the best pots. I still have one. I moved in the late 80's, and left some with my mom who gave them away last year when she was moving. I have yet to find any that I am satisfied with.

I hate teflon too. I understand when you find that one brand and they really work for you then they break or get old and you just can't find any anymore.. That really sucks..

I do not like Teflon - it is too temperamental for me, plus it is dangerous to cook in them at high temperatures. If we know it is dangerous at high temps - what about the lower temps that might be causing damage that we are not even aware of.

I am not a fan of teflon - I haven't owned a teflon pan in many years. I do not like having to be careful with utensils - I like to dig right in and LOVE my stainless steel gadgets for doing so. Teflon is not to be heated up to high temperatures which to me kind of rules out having it in saucepans. Do not boil anything in teflon as it gives off toxic fumes.

I prefer teflon and never have a problem if I use the plastic utensils when I'm cooking. Last year I got a beautiful set of stainless steel pans from my son for Christmas and I hate them. I have more problems with food sticking to them no matter what I do!
