Some people believe in "D"estiny, while others choose to believe in God. (ok, some people choose to believe in "N"othing, and those are atheists/agnostics, but not a large portion of the population)
The fact that most people invoke either "D"estiny or God leads me to believe more than ever that human beings are born with a yearning to put a kind of order and meaning to their lives where, to the naked eye, there is none. It is in our genetic material to believe in a higher power; that belief has been a part of our species since the Stone Age and always will be. That's why, when I hear some folks say "religion should be banned" and "religion is the source of all evil in the world" it makes me laugh. Religion will NEVER go away; it's a very building block of the human condition.

I think there are things that are just meant to happen, however, I also think that we are in control of our own lives and we determine what happens to us. Kinda like we are given the 5 cards in poker but we choose which cards we want to keep and which cards we want to throw away.
