I save all of my change in my car ashtray, and since I never use it unless I am puting change into it I usually forget it is there. It is and older car, and has a rather large ashtray. I forgot obout it for 2 months and there was like almost a hundred dollars in there. so I made it a perminant thing not to spend this money, and once a week I deposit it into a unopenable piggy bank.

I love to save money and I have found that it is the small things that I do that can really help. With electricity, I have the habit of always turning a light off when I leave the room. If I am not going to use my computer for an hour or more, I shut it down. When I boil a kettle of water for coffee/tea, what is left I pour into a vacuum flask and reboil it later (it uses less power and the water comes to the boil quicker). I keep the thermostat down on our central heating system. I don't need to be that warm all the time and before I started doing this, I often found myself opening windows because I had got too hot.
When going out, if I can, I will cycle or walk and leave the car behind. With my clothes, it may sound obvious, but I never wear my expensive ones longer than I have to. If I have been out, once I get home I change.
With jobs that need doing around the house, I always try and fix it myself before calling in a specialist. I have invested in many instructional DIY books and have fixed plumbing, roofs, etc myself. I also fix our washing machines and vacuum cleaners..
I enjoy it, as well as saving money..

Hi Magnet,
Well, that is a good way of doing it. When I used to work, I used to put away $20 on every paycheck that I've gotten and I did save up to a $1000 one time that bought me a very used car but it worked and when I get a job someday again, I am planning on doing that again. I hope this helps.

My best money saving tips involves electricity. I use energy-saving bulb, although it's a bit expensive to buy initially, in the long run you'll save a lot due to the fact that it use lesser watts and last longer than normal bulb. Basic things such as switch off the light when not using it and turn down the thermostat also helps.
