What are "you" doing about Global Warming?

The main reason for an increase in the global atmospheric temperature us due to greenhouse gas concentrations.
An increase in global temperatures is expected to cause changes, including sea level rise, increased intensity of extreme weather events, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. Other effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.
What can be done about this? What is your government doing about this? What are you doing about this?

It's been my understanding that volcanic eruptions cause more greenhouse gases and that man has contributed but is not the main cause. That does not mean we shouldn't be doing all we can to cut down on our emissions. I think most of us here in the states are rather disappointed with our governments regulatory contributions but individual states are working on laws to help our environment and many many citizens are doing what they can. I personally have switch out my light bulbs, recycle and turn down or up, depending on the season, my thermostat. I do not cut my grass on extremely hot days nor due I fill my car during daylight hours on those same days. Electrical appliances are unplugged when not in use, and I have switched to using paper instead of plastic when I grocery shop. I'm sure there are more tips so I look forward to reading other posts.

According to the Wikipedia encylcopedia...
"Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward."
Since then, it appears to be us humans.
You are obviously doing as much as you can & if everyone did the same, the effect could be noticeable..
I also turm off light bulbs all the time, In fact I walk around turning off lights after everyone. I recycle nearly everything.
I try to buy energy efficient electrical appliances. I don't always remember to turn off switches, but my hubby does, & I am going to make a greater effort.
I still use plastic about 50% of the time when shopping, but have bought cloth bags & will buy more.
The only part of yours I don't understand is why you don't fill your car on very hot days? Does it evaporate from the tank?

***"According to the Wikipedia encylcopedia...

But another part of the article says:

*Aside: The consensus is also in question by several in the scientific community*
Then the article continues:
*********
"In contrast to the scientific consensus that recent warming is mainly attributable to elevated levels of greenhouse gases, other hypotheses have been suggested to explain the observed increase in mean global temperature. One such hypothesis proposes that warming may be the result of variations in solar activity.[12][13][14][15]"

*Aside #2: Here's some other sources on that hypothesis

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/03/030321075236.htm (though not as dire)
And then further in the article there is a general maintaining of temperature but we have some of the recent events that show the Earth, orbit and odd changes in temp far before real CO2 production
*********
"Global temperatures on both land and sea have increased by 0.75 °C (1.35 °F) relative to the period 1860–1900, according to the instrumental temperature record. This measured temperature increase is not significantly affected by the urban heat island effect. Since 1979, land temperatures have increased about twice as fast as ocean temperatures (0.25 °C per decade against 0.13 °C per decade).[37] Temperatures in the lower troposphere have increased between 0.12 and 0.22 °C (0.22 and 0.4 °F) per decade since 1979, according to satellite temperature measurements. Temperature is believed to have been relatively stable over the one or two thousand years before 1850, with possibly regional fluctuations such as the Medieval Warm Period or the Little Ice Age."
**********************************
*Aside #3: Those "possible regional fluctuations" they did happen. There were plenty of famines (Western Europe, Asia), diseases (Europe), strange warming periods (Greenland), odd cooling periods (North America, Europe, Asia) all through out the 900-1700s. Due to varied reasons: Elliptical orbit, solar cycles.
Do not mistake me Jenny, I'm a nature man, but I'd rather look at a great deal of things with this and many other topics. I'll post what I do just for nature's sake (I do not need a reason like Global Warming, Cooling or Ocean Rising. I do it because I feel its right, not because some empty heads are crying scaretactics).

I use energy efficient light bulbs and don't fill my kettle etc, all these small steps help save us money and reduce our carbon foot prints. The UK government is doing all it can to inform people about how to reduce their carbon foot prints, though I'd have to do some research to find out what else they are doing.

We have a couple of those enery efficient light bulbs It's a good idea. I don't fill my kettle either, buy my hubby does. I can't seem to convince him otherwise.

I forgot to add I also use re-usable shopping bags whenever I can to reduce the amount of plastic I throw away.

I do both the energy efficient bulbs and the reuseable bag at times. Most times though the grocers plastic bags are easily recyclable (#2 plastic)

This is a very seriours issue and though I am not an authority but i have been trying to do my bit. After repeated insistence, I have actually succeeded in turning off the useless electrical appliances in my house. Convincing the whole household was difficult but not impossible. Then, we have switched to recycled paper bags and cloth bags instead if the polybags. In my country ppl donot know what is global warming and the effects of it. So, it's really hell of a job here to convince the commoners here. It's only when the government took up the cudgels that ppl really stopped using plastics and guess what that too out of fear and not out of awareness. My mom runs an NGO and we make ppl conscious about the horrifying effects of GW. This is what we are doing in our own rights, in a very small way though. Hoping to due it on large scale soon.
Thanks for a pertinent post.

Plastic bags are a BIG issue here. They are being phased out & eventually there will be a copmplete ban on them. People have to use cloth bags. I have a few.

If you believe in global warming your a moron. Remember MT.Saint Helen, if that spewed out 10 years of global warming theres nothing to worry about. The earth can fix itself if we mess up to bad.(ICE AGE) I'm sure you believe in second hand smoke too.

Thinks I do not because of the Global Warming but just because I want to do as I please to help nature.
Things I do
-Recycle Aluminum Cans (By the pounds)
-Recycle Newspaper/Cardboard at home
-Recycle Print and Plotter Paper (it comes with the territory)
-Recycle Glass (especially drinks)
-Pick up liter from time to time
-Use some recyclable/recycled items even some minor computer objects
-Use less light, power and energy
-Walk from time to time instead of drive (plus I need it for health and hawt looks XD)
-Research Solar Energy for community and world adoption
-Research Wind Energy and placement for adoption (though blocked by some politicians, even doubletalkers)
-Research Biomass (ones that aren't so economy crashing! they exist but not all societies are on board to use them)
-Research Geothermal power
-Keep track of arctic changes
-Keep track of solar changes
-Inform people of the various sides of the issue
-Warn people not to follow the empty words of the empty politicians and celebs (can't even practice what they preach)
All of this is because I want to do it. Not because of global warming. Not because Goreacle wants to expand his power. Not because some empty broken life celebs whine about it.

This is a really excellent response. Thank You.
And you know, informing people is abouyt the best action you have taken. Lots of people a little bit of recycling, but the only real action that occurs is when we educate people fully.

I am pursuing a career in Solar Power sales to individual homeowners- Our company can offer a complete Solar Power system on your Home with no "HUGE" investment.
NO system to purchase! NO installation costs! NO maintenance fees! This is available to USA homeowners. Solar Power is now available to every homeowner in America-Rich or poor- and us average Americans

We have solar powered heating, have had it for years. I am not aware of any other solar power technology that is available for home use in Australia.
My husband bought this solar powered charger for the car.
I have sween people caravaning with an elaborate system set up to get all their electrical needs from solar power.
Perhaps you could start a discussion on what is available for home use in terms of solar power. I would be interested.

This is a huge issue Jenny, I wish it could be solved over night, but alas it cannot.
I only wish that the govenments of the world would have started to do something about this years ago, because they knew it was going to happen.
I hope they havn't left it too late, as the consequences of global warming are quite evident today.
We can all do our little bit to help, it may seem a small thing that we can do, but if everyone of us did a few things to help global warming and the enviroment it would make a difference and become a united and a huge effort.
I do hope everyone is trying at least to do their little bit, as every little bit helps.

Well, yes, I agree that politicians & the like need to set an example.
