I am new here and thought I would let everyone know a little about me. I am 24 years old. I have been married for 6 years to a wonderful man and we have 3 kids. I have always been depressed, but it has become much worse in the last year due to the extra stress of my son's mental illness. I was put on Zoloft and Prozac to help. They do not help. I cannot take the Zoloft everyday as I should because they knock me out. My son sleeps very little, and requires 24/7 monitoring, so I cannot be in that heavy of a sleep. My depression is getting worse. Everyday is a huge struggle just to get out of bed. When I do get up, it is nearly impossible for me to get up off the couch and get anything done. I would love any tips from others that have found something that helps.

Hi...my name is Sara. I have OCD, which is obsessive compulsive disorder. I am on Lexapro....and it has helped me a lot. I don't know if they prescribe it just for depression, but you may want to ask your doctor about it. I know it helps a lot of people with OCD, but it could have bad side affects as well. I took it a few years ago and I became very angry and crabby. I was prescribed it again recently because the doctor thought since I'm a little bit older it may not have that affect on me anymore, and sure enough it has helped me. But like I said, I don't know if they will prescribe it for depression. Either way, I think you should find a new medicine that will help you. I know from experience that it sometimes takes trying many different medicines to find one that works, but in the end it will be WELL worth it. You deserve to be happy, and your children need you as well. Best of luck...let's keep in touch!

I tend to agree and say you need some rest. I dont know anythign about medication for depression but I remember feeling depressed because of a boss I had. I could not do anythign right no matter how much work I did. I got upset and reported her to the bigger boss which made life a bit difficult for me until I was placed where I am now. I had headaches all day and had sickness as if I was pregnant!
Well I did get some rest and located to a new house and a new boss which has changed my outlook that not all people are meanies and hate people just because my hair is natural.
Hoenstly I wished I knew how to make you feel better but I do think you should get some rest! Hope you have someone who can take careof the baby for atleast two hours and allow you to get some needed rest!. Other than this I will be praying for you.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome here. It makes me feel better to talk with people who are going through the same things, kind of helps that isolated feeling. Thanks again!

Hi bkhannon,
it must be hard for you to take care of your son 24/7. I also have a newborn baby and it is tiring to have a sleep deprived all the time. Do you have family that live nearby? Or someone that might help you taking care of your son? You might ask them to take care of your son for 1 or 2 hours, while you have a break and rest. Good luck and take care..

I do not have any family nearby. The closest is an hour away. I call everyone each night to let them know how my son is doing and update them on his therapy and whatever his psychiatrist has said. A break sounds really nice, just unattainable right now. I am hoping to save enough money in the next few months to pay for respite care for my son. It will only be for him, not the other two children, but honestly, as much as I love him, a break from him would be a really nice start.

Hi,bkhannon. You're not alone here.I have been depressed from I knew I'm a hbver on.That was two years ago and was the last year of my university life.At that time I got a offer of a Japanes company which requided all the enployee s have health check before they go to woke. It's just the health check that let me komw I'm a hbver. Then obviously I was fired. What even worse was my boyfriend's parents realized my health situation and they forced my boyfriend not to be with me.It made me so depressed that I wanted to kill myself. But I didn't have the courage as I had the responsebility of looking after my parents. Then I'm still alive now.

I've also experience depression but not a severe one. I haven't take any medication so can't help much. The only thing I can advice is take time for yourself. Most of the times depression is a cause of the people or condition surrounding us. Take away your attention from them and listen to yourself.

I have battled the same thing in my life with depression and stress and other types of anxiety. I also have a child, but not with the challenges yours has. I agree, I think the biggest thing you need is rest. But I do have another suggestion that is all natural that I have been taking for a few months now and I'll tell you, I feel like a million bucks! I was always having to take naps and would find myself trying to dose off at bad times. I wasn't taking interest in the things around me and just wanted to do nothing. This stuff has helped me tremendously. If you are interested, send me a message and I'll give you details. (I am also new and don't know what we are allowed to say as far as stuff like that or not...)
