My sons are in kindergarten and headstart. They are always bringing home so many drawings and papers they have done. I cant seem to throw them away. I love all there artwork! I think im going to get a big folder for each child and save all of there papers. It will be nice to look back on and see how much there writing changes, coloring, and drawing changes. But whens enough enough? I have a 2 inch stack from each already and weve only had 3 weeks of school. Oh well I guess you can never have to many drawings. I have a wall in my living room covered in all the artwork and projects they did last year in school. Do you save your childrens school papers?

My children are 22, 18, and 9 (my step daughter is 18, but lives with her mom, so I've never seen her school work). I have always had a bad habit of keeping all the school work that came home. I eventually had to start choosing some of it to keep and tossing the rest. I of course can't let my youngest see it being thrown away or he says, "Mom, why are you throwing my papers away?"
I keep most of the artwork and any papers where they have written stories. It's fun to go back years later and show them what they wrote.

My sons would say the same thing. Thats why for now I will keep everything and in a year or so we can weed out the ones we dont need.

I still have lots of my daughters drawings and papers from school and she's 27 now lol. I didn't keep all of them though because, as you say, there's a lot of them! They are nice to look back on though - especially as she has a daughter of her own now. She likes looking back at them too because she remembers actually doing some of the drawings etc. It's a trip down memory lane for her.

I save all the A+'s and put them on the refrigerator after a couple of days when new ones are brought home I discard them. I put them on the fridge and it lets my daughter see how proud I am . It gives her the incentive to try her best

Take pictures of all of them and then you can discard them...That way you don't have 5 million papers stacked up....Keep a few but when it gets overwhelming, put them out and take a picture of the lot of them...Put a group together and snap away....They will have memories forever..

I keep my sons stuff, well, most of it anyway. Some of it I have parted with simply for the fact that we didn't have enough room. But I keep way more than I throw away. I think he will enjoy looking back on it when he is older as well as me looking back with fond memories.

For the last three years sense my son has been in school he's brought home so many drawings I too can't get rid of.. He makes them from the heart and thats what's so beautiful about his pictures and drawings.. He tries his hardest and it shows.. I too have bought a folder and put his work in it.. And I still have some on the walls from his Kindergarten class...

My mother saved my school papers (drawings, but also exercises books) for a lot of years (until I was 28...), but 2 years ago my parents moved into a new apartment and they realized that the saved school papers were too many, so my mother had to do a choice and now she has only one drawing and one exercise book for each year of the primary school...I agree with this chioce and I think I will save a short number of school papers when I'll have a son...

Pick out your favorites...you will get overwhelmed...frame them and make them look like real art. You will be surprised at how classy the kids stuff can get.

Thats cool. I bet they were amazed to see stuff from when they were little. I know my mom has a book of every paper I did in kindergarten. I look through that once in a while. It neat to see how much you change as you grow older.

I used to but after moving from colorado to missouri and then again to another town in missouri most of what i have saved has been trashed. Just this year though i have started to sit down with my children and do artsy things with them that i am saving( i have always done this) i have plans to save at least 2 a year one at the beginning of the year and one at the end so we can see how much they have grown.

Some you should keep Copper. They'll be priceless memories further in the future. Also you can take one of my superdad (I'm not a dad yet but still) approaches to this problem.
Get a scanner/scanner-printer. Scan the items you really want to keep and keep them digitally. If the scanner is 8.5x11 and you have a few bigger drawings, try doing it in sections, or just make that one of the ones you keep physically. Other scanners come in at 8.5x14(mine) or 11x17 so that may help.
When keeping them digitally, keep one on the computer. When the items get too numerous or you fear the computer could wipe, write them to CD or DVD. Be sure to write a CD or if you can DVD of the projects too when you get a lot of them, or just to back them up as a precaution. And keep one copy on an external hard drive. For extra measure, get a flash drive or memory card (format the card first) and store a copy on one of those too.
Another solution is to get a large portfolio binder for large items, paintings and drawings and get a smaller portfolio or scrapbook for smaller items. Plenty of art, hobby and craft shops should have them. Plus you can find something else for your little sons to perhaps get into. Of course you'll bring yourself closer to reaching square one again, but its worth it for another several smiles on your kids faces.

Thanx for the great ideas. I like the one about taking pics and keeping them. My mom said to have the boys pose with some of there work to. I would definatly put them on a disc so I can have them forever. Then I can just add the disc to there scrapbooks.

I have 2kids who are studying and I keep their school papers but not all of it. I just select and place those in an album wherein we can try to open it and look back, just like some old photos.
It is really nice to take a look at those esp. when decades have gone and yet the school papers are still visible.

I have some of my kids work still packed away in a safe place. They are adults now and a couple of them have children of their own. Over the years I have gone through the boxes and purged them of paperwork that has disinegrated or faded. I haven't the heart to just toss them all away.

My son has just started Kindergarten and I have all his drawings and colour in posters up on his wall. I have a few to frame as they are quite nice and send them to his grandparents. I'm going to save everything he does since he started :)

Hi copperkitten.
My little girl is only 15 months so she has quite a ways to go before she starts school. I honestly think I will get a HUGE folder for every year that she is in school and save everything. I couldn't see myself ever throwing anything away! I am a big sentimental softy I guess lol.

I have a bunch of old papaers. I think I kepot almost everything from when he was in head start, and as well as kindergarten and first grade! I pout a lot of his drwings into a scrap book. It's on;ly natural to not be able to throw their stuff away! I have silly little art projects all over my house! Things he made in school years ago!
