Haha, this is so bad.
My sister has asked me to accompany her on my guitar while she sings for our parents on their silverwedding day.
I have so far only played the guitar for me. As a kind of leasure thing to clear the mind and have some fun while learning to play.
Well Im taking the opportunity and will have fun with it, but Im so bloody shy about my playing that Ill probably mess it up horribly :D
So whats your story for a first time playing in public?
Ill post mine when its done and over with myself :D

Wow, your first gig!!!!
Well, kind of..
I just recently started learning how to play the guitar, and I gotta say I totally understand how you feel. I think I would be much more comfortable playing in front of complete strangers than my own family. I don't know why. I mean, I'm always practicing in my room, and sometimes my mom can hear me practice, but whenever she says something like I'm playing good, or she asks me to play something for her, I freeze up and I'm too shy to do so. I can play in front of my sisters, I guess I'm too afraid that she might judge me or something. I don't know.
But then, if I ever plan to play in front of an audience in future then I have to get over that fear.
And so should you.
I'm sure you're great on that guitar, and all you have to do is pretend that you are playing in front of strangers, if that works for you. And think of it this way, you will probably be the only one in that room with such a great skill. Playing guitar is a great skill to have and so don't be shy of other peoples judgments on you, who don't even play the instrument.
Good luck on your first gig, I hope you have a great time.
Let me know how it goes.
Take care.

Well, tell me how it goes, once it's done. I'm sure you must be excited, I would be too. And a first gig is a first gig, it doesn't matter where it is as long as there is an audience. I look forward to my first gig someday too.
Good luck and thanks for the best response.

I think if you practice a bit with your sister you will do just fine. Concentrate on your playing and don't worry about what's going on in the room. If you make a mistake most of the people in the room will probably not even notice if you just keep going.
My only audience has been my friends and family.

Well Im not really too worried about playing something wrong, its by all means just family :D Im more afraid of the nerveousness and being red in the face if I make mistakes, which will create even more laughter if noticed hehe.
Been training a bit so far, but its still a bit of a leap going from playing for youself to playing for an audience :D

I've been playing guitar with bands in the area for about 6-7 years... and when I first started I was only 14 or 15. I'll go ahead and tell you, there is nothing that will prepare you for performing in front of an audience more than experience! Quite honestly, it's much harder for me to play in front of close friends and family than on stage in a packed club. I don't know all those people in the venue so it really isn't going to hurt my feelings if they judge me in a way I don't care for... but when playing for my friends and family I'm very self conscious. The best suggestion I could give to you is to just practice playing in front of a decent amount of people to start. Imagining them naked won't help, sorry. All it takes is experience and that gradual desensitization to stage fright and/or anxiety.
Hope that helped, best of luck to you!
