Hello spoiled311, I don't believed that when I point my index finger at a rainbow that I will lose it. Generally , I don't believed any superstitions at all. Growing up as a kid I have heard a lot of them from my parents and other people. Sometimes they used superstitions to scare you so you would not do certain things.
Our country's culture is rich with superstitions about anything and everything. It is practically interwoven into our people specially the old ones consciousness whether we like it or not. :-)

hahaha that's right eprado. some of the superstitions you listed:
1. Do not sing while you are cooking or you will end up widowed (at least that is the version I heard) - yeah, i heard this one and sometimes when i would catch myself singing when i was still single, i would stop and bite my lip. gee, imagine how superstitions can hold us in prison.!
2. do not move around changing places in the table while eating, you will change husbands, or in other words divorce and marry a number of times -- hmmm...i haven't heard of this one.
3. well, there is no sweeping the floor at night.
4. don't go playing at 3 o'clock in the afternoon so as not to disturb the engkantos (spirits)
5. do not step over someone's legs or they will not grow tall.
6. jump 3x during new year so that you will grow taller. well, i did not, and i am 4'10". so shouldn't i have followed it? hahahaha

Yup, I agree with you. Can't do anything about it specially if its the Granny's whose talking. Lolz :-) Just have to keep quiet and respect it. I just smile whenever I hear one every now and then.
I bet you remember lots of them like:
Do not sing while you are cooking or you will end up widowed (at least that is the version I heard), or do not move around changing places in the table while eating, you will change husbands, or in other words divorce and marry a number of times.
And one of my favorite and least understood is the one when you open an umbrella indoors, a centipede (which I assume is the equivalent of an alupihan) will fall down from the ceiling.
Don't you just love it. :-)

hahaha right disvachic. that is why it is crazy. i think superstition is like gossip. a person starts it, and then spreads it around. then people believe it even if it's not true. and people, who are afraid of bad luck, would try to make sure that they believe it. i think it is more like people wanting to be secure in their lives that they would rather believe in those things.
hahaha now, i havent heard about that one that about putting the purse on the floor. well i don't either. not for any other reason. hahaha
