Have you had to pay back unemployment compensation? I received unemployment after I was fired from my job. The reason for being fired was because I was sexually harrassed and they found it easier to fire me than to fire the ones responsible...Unfortunately my claim was discontinued and now they want me to repay them...I don't feel that I should have too! If I don't repay them they will just take it out of any future compensation that I could receive....What are you thoughts on this?

Hi Lakota, that is what they have been doing.. Billing me and it says they will do it until 2008 and not sure what then...If I don't pay it and get laid off they will not pay me until that debt is paid..I am not stressing over it, because their isn't too much they can do..I did settle for $5000.00. which I know wasn't a whole lot but reliving all of it is worse..Thank you..

Thank you Pattie..All the people involved have been fired, so that is the best news for me..I just don't want them to harass anyone else if they get employed somewhere else...They started to pay me and things changed as the investigation went on and they said I have to repay but that is until Jan. 2008..I don't think I have to worry to much about it...I did settle for $5000.00 so I wouldn't have to relive it anymore than I already have...HUGS

No I don't think you should have to repay them back either, Not only because you were fired but because you were sexually harassed.. They should of fire the person that was doing it to you instead of you.. Sometime it just goes to show you how much some people really care and stick up for others.. So sad...

I suggest you contact a lawyer and ask some questions. This sounds really fishy to me.

I would contact the Labor Department and ask them for information.

I thought they don' t fire the victim but only the one that did the crime so to speak. That must be terrible. There must be something you can do to stop them.

That is how it is suppose to work...It was easier to get me out of there because it involved the bad person (male), my supervisor (male), and management (male) was harassing me...Then a (female) employee made up things that weren't true, so getting rid of me was easier than firing management, a supervisor and 2 employees...
