Well! I am way off about bariatric surgery. I do have a friend who had it done. She didn't talk about it much after she had it done. She did say that changing her eating habits were the hardest part; like any habit. (She is an incredible baker.) She lost weight, a lot of weight. She was so excited about being able to run around her backyard, and breathe at the same time. She went from two-hundred and fifty-five pounds to about a-hundred and sixty pounds. She finally could have a life. She looked so beautiful. All the best to you and Good Luck with that. It would be interesting to watch your weight go down. Post a progress report each week......Cool! I forgot to mention, when the skin is empty, it will be baggy. There will be excercising and possibly 'tucking', depending on how much weight you have lost. It's a long term process. I'm sure we all will support you by cheering you on!

If you are that much overweight I would recommend it for sure. I was only 90 pounds overweight (and to tell the truth, gained about 7 or 8 pounds to qualify). I had to have my gallbladder out of the doctor (and insurance company) wouldn't have done it then. Good luck to you!

My mother had this done 12 years ago and has had mixed results. Looking only at the weight loss benefit, which is the main purpose, it has been very successful. She has had some uncomfortable side effects (her stomach is now so small that if she overeats even slightly she becomes sick), but I think she would say that it is worth it. 12 years later she is still much thinner than before.

I'm sorry, I don't personally know anyone who has had that done, but please be careful and make sure you're aware of all the risks before you undergo the surgery.

My aunt had the Surgery a couple of yrs. ago. She was able to loose weight from it, but last I heard, was way over 250 again. So I guess if you work at it, and want to keep the weight off, etc. is can be a Good thing.

Bariatric surgery is indeed a means of reducing obesity. However look a bit deeper..if there is genetic history, i.e. you parents or close relatives, grandpas where obese in a ratio more than 20% then i would be rather cautious..or if it is because of some disease and not lifestyle..Unless you ahve true problems..think it twice. That is my opinion

Thank you for your response.Yes it is genetic in my family the Drs. have told me the only way for me to lose the weight is to have the surgery done.I have had several different Drs in my life that have suggested i have this surgery so now all i can do is sit back and wait till a Dr comes available that will do the surgery and take my medicaid to do it.

I have known several people who have had it done and they would not change it for the world. They say that your a pretty sore for a few weeks, and getting used to measuring you food and changing the habits are very hard, but in the end, well worth it. My insurance will not pay for it even it it it deamed medically necessary. I wish you good luck..:)

I have known a couple of people that had it that had dramatic results as far as weight loss, at first. But over time by continuing to have bad eating habits their stomachs stretched and they gained part of the weight back. I also had an acquaintance die shortly after the surgery; so think long and hard about it first. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Well yes a friend of mine underwent the surgery its all about sealing off most of the stomach to reduce the amount of food one can eat, and to rearrange the small intestine to reduce the calories the bodies can absorb. I must admit that yes it has been a great success for him

I know a few who have, but I won't ever do it. 1) I'm not 90 or more pounds over weight and 2) it sounds scary!

I haven't had a bariatric surgery. I don't even know what it is. It does sound serious though. Any surgery is serious. Once your skin is cut, your body is open to infection. My husband, years ago had to have polyps removed from his colon, and he had to have a 'barium'(?) enema. Is there any relation between the words 'barium' and 'bariatric'? (I haven't read the above responses. I'll do that now.)

Thank you for your response. No i think those are 2 different things. But Bariatric Surgery is where they do what is called Gastric Bypass Surgery on your stomach, they make your stomach smaller so that you can only eat a certain amount of food and calories. It helps overweight people to lose weight and to keep it off.

I know several people who have had it and it does work but it's not a instant fix. You have to stick with the rules of eating afterwards and make sure that you find a reputable doctor.
