Could you give up soda?

Until a few months ago I was a Diet Coke addict. I often drank nearly a two liter bottle a day of the stuff. My family also drank alot of pop although not nearly as much as I did. After the most recent health report about how bad diet sodas are for you my family decided to stop drinking soda. This meant no more Diet Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, Root Beer or other soft drinks. It was a rather difficult transition and I wasn't sure I'd make it. It has now been nearly three months since my last Diet Coke. I've switched to tea which is healthier but still high on caffine I know. Cutting the soda also helped cut our grocery budget. So, could you give up your soda?

I don't know if I could, I know I'm somewhat hooked on caffeine although I try to cutback on the soda and only drink my favorite (Mountain Dew) every so often. I do drink a few energy drinks a week as well and also I love tea. I'd like to replace them all with some nice tea, but I don't know if that will happen.

If you go to Dr. Mercola's web site you will find out that the substitute for sugar, aspertame, etc. turns your blood to fermaldihaide, so I will not drink diet soda, I have cut out soda, and drink Ice Tea instead, I found that I lost weight from not drinking soda, and sugar attractes cancer cell, so I stay away from sugar too.

I'm not sure who Dr. Mercola is and also I doubt the validity of the claim that the sugar substitute will turn your blood into formaldehyde (I assume thats the chemical you are referring to). Somehow it seems hard to believe that the FDA would allow something like that to be put into consumed goods. If that is true then I guess we should all be zombies, because formaldehyde has common uses as disinfectants and embalming fluids for embalming cadavers.

I used to drink soft drinks a lot an than my husband and I decided to stop drinking it and we did. we went "cold turkey" and had no soft drink for about 4 months. Now I only drink it in company, and thats 1-2 class of drink and I have enough. I prefer the taste of water now.

I used to not like the taste of water at all. Since stopping the Diet Coke I usually drink tea or maybe lemonade but sometimes I'm just craving plain old water. Never, ever had that happen before. What do you drink most often now other than water?

I have, as has my husband. We're trying to be very frugal. Every once in a while, we have pop when we are offered it at other people's houses. I think it's okay; once you get used to not having it, it works.

I thought I would never be able to give up soda (especially after coke zero *sigh*) - but Topamax took care of that. I got put on topamax for migraines and now all sodas taste just awful. So that aversive therapy works great. Can't touch the stuff now. :-(

I cut out soda completely. UNTIL Cherry Coke Zero. So yummy, but I'm trying to cut that out now, it's very hard because my job offers free cans of soda in the fridge. The temptation is very high to grab a can instead of a bottle of water every time I open the door, but so far I have resisted all other tempting sodas. Cherry Coke Zero is my absolute weakness, and I don't even know why because I honestly like the way I feel after I drink water but not after soda.

Yes I can, and have, given up soda. Sometimes I'll have the occasion sprite when we go out. But usually when we go out or when I'm at home I'll just drink water. And I have a cup of hot tea at night.

I have tried to cut sodas out completely, but have never been successful. I get headaches really bad when I cut caffeine out of my diet, and that is a bad thing. We do drink a lot of water, tea, coffee, and kool aid at the house. I try to only buy one 12 pack of pop a week, but I drink it at work because it is free there. I know it would be healthier to kick the habit, but I am just not going to yet, unless I have to.

I had liked drinking soda so much because I liked sweet things. Lately I realize it is not good for my health. So I already get rid of drink it. I seldom will drink soda at present. I prefer to drink more water.

It is already few years that i could manage not to drink a lot of soda. I was a Coke addict few years ago. But after I heard few story about how much sugar level inside soda drink that I often consumed, I decided to stop not to drink soda at all. And I could manage until now. When I go to the restaurant, I often order tea or even only mineral water for my drink which is a very healthy drink I guess.

i completely cut out soda and RARELY have it. I crave it every so often and will give in but it is never more than once a month. Like you, I also drink tea or coffee. I feel much healthier after I quit drinking soda.. but I also started a healthier lifestyle as well.

Nope, plain and simple for me!! I have tried and it lasted for awhile, but I just really missed the sodas. I was surprised how easy it was to quit because I was drinking like 5 cans of soda a day, but I did it to get healthier =) I just got back in the habit but now I just drink one a day. I just LOVE sodas, my favorite is Diet DrPepper. So no I wouldn't give them up, but I guess if I were really sick or something and my doctor told me to stop drinking them I would.
