Keeping a Journal for your child?

I've been thinking about starting a journal for my daughter. Something that I would write into about some of my personal experiences and lessons that I have learned from them. Also, putting somethings in there that she did as young child, so she would have the memories forever. This would be something that I would give her maybe on her 16th or 18th birthday. Does anybody else do something like this? What do you think, would you consider this for your child? Any suggestions?

That is one of the best ideas I have ever heard. Honestly, thank you for putting it up. I'm late with it, but I'll be starting one for my daughter within the hour. I do believe that waiting until she is more adult would be a better idea, just because in the teen years kids can be very over-sensitive about strange things. She might take some parts as critisisms...or she might think it was a waste of time to read. Wait until she is old and mature enough to understand properly, and more likely to possibly learn from your experiences.

Hello TripleS519,
It is a good idea. I have been thinking of the same idea for my baby son. He is just over one year old right now but I think being his mother, I learned a lot in life and it is amazing to see him grows up. I have the same idea with you. When he reaches 21, I have been thinking to present him with this invaluable gift to celebrate his key to freedom.

It is amazing to see them grow. I remember my mom saying "when your a mother you'll understand" I thought I always understood until I had a child of my own, now I realize I had no clue. But I understand now. Good luck!

I have one that my mother started. After about fifth grade, however, she stopped keeping it up. There's a lot of books you can buy that just have the templates included straight into them.

Thank you. I was looking at her baby book the other day and I realized that her birthday is next month and her 5th birthday is when the baby book stops. She's not a baby anymore! So I really want to do something to keep the memories going.

I have a three years old daughter, and she is now starting to develop in so many ways. What I do to keep a journal of her activities. For example, she like to make a drawing nowadays. So I collect the drawings that she made, and keep them separate. So one day we can look at it again and of course we can show her when she already grow up later.

I would also keep my own journal about my experiences with my child, especially what I learned from it all. Someday, you may have enough material for a good article, perhaps in Parents' magazine, or even a book for parents! You should also consider including photos in your journal.
