In your opinion, wouldn't it be great if they came out with something that you could use on foods that didn't have all the sugar and salt, but yet tasted just as good as if it did? Do you think that it is possible? And do you think that people with diabetes and hypertension could benefit from it considering that they can't eat that stuff anyway? It sucks when things are so good that they are bad for you. It either has too much salt or too much sugar. Now, for those of you who are healthy and feel that it is okay to eat a grip of sugar or a grip of salt, then I guess that you must feel like you are invincilbe to high blood pressure or diabetes....NOT!!! You can develop these things too if you are not careful. So lets get some ideas from all of you to see what you would do to make food without sugar or salr.

Splenda may help you in this endeavor. I use it in my boiled teas from time to time so it does cook and dissolve well, tastes great. And one time I did use it for a German chocolate cake and that didn't turn out bad at all. Be sure not to go crazy with consuming virtually anything you can think of. Take things in moderation.

Spenda is still a sweetener. I am talking about something that is so natural, that it is like you just pulled it from nature and is pure.

i use nothing..as all of the popular condiments have too much sugar or salt or worse MSG...so i use Mrs DASh or nothing..after awhile you get the taste for the food and not the sauce..even BBQ i omit the heavy sauces and just like the taste of the meat but it takes a while..good luck

I have tasted some no-sugar-added products that have no flavour whatsoever, and I have tasted others that have tasted just like any other of the same product. The no-sugar-added cookies are not as sweet tasting as regular cookies, but they have enough flavour that I can live with them and not have the sugar filled ones. No-sugar-added apple pie and ice cream taste the same as others. But some candies and chocolates... gross! I don't know whether it depends on which company makes the product, or whether it is the difference in sugar substitutes. I use Splenda on my cereal and in my tea and find it no different than regular sugar. I have yet to cook with it. I wince when I see how much sugar my husband puts on his cereal. He wouldn't even TASTE the no-sugar-added ice cream even though I told him it tasted the same, yet when a survey company sent a free box of cereal that appeared to be lower in sugar (no indication what the difference was) he had no trouble eating it even though he admitted he thought it was lower in sugar. Go figure! As for salt, I'm not sure. When I worked for the Canadian Cancer Society, my boss (a scientist) said it took him a long time to convince his wife not to cook with salt. He said taste the food first and then add your own to taste as you like it. I try and do that with my family. Again, my husband pours salt on top of the margarine he spreads on his mother's buscuits. He has never had a cholesterol problem but his recent exercise and weight loss has caused his cholesterol to go down. In the end, I go with my father's motto - Everything in moderation.

Not all sugar free things are bad. I like sugar free jello better than the regular.

i totally agree with you. i'm trying to diet, but my choices are high sugar tasty products that are also high in calories or sugar-free items that taste awful and have aspertame. i heard that aspertame is bad for you and possibly linked to cancer (although it seems like everything now adays is linked to cancer). it would be nice if there was a no sugar substitute that was tasty, low in calories, and healthy. maybe in the future. maybe they're already working on it. i guess i can dream. ha, ha, ha
